Abstract

The device (1) comprises at least one duct (3) perforated by orifices (17) and placed inside an open box (2) filled with a non-combustible material forming a diffusion bed. A primary gas-air mixture is supplied to the duct (3) by a feed device (4) connected to a gas pipe (5). The device comprises secondary air inlets (16) towards the upper part of the diffusion bed (25), consisting in particular of orifices provided in a rim (10) around the edge of the box (2). The invention is applicable to a closed-hearth fireplace where the gas burns around non-combustible elements which have the appearance of logs of wood.

Claims (4)

  1. A device forming a gas burner, in particular for a heating appliance in which the combustion of gas occurs around non-combustible elements which for example look like logs of wood, of the type comprising at least one gas conduit (3) which is apertured with orifices (17) and which is disposed in the interior of an open box filled with a non-combustible material forming a diffusion bed for the gas and which is fed with a gas-primary air mixture and with secondary air, said gas conduit being adapted to direct the gas-primary air mixture towards the bottom of said diffusion bed, a plurality of secondary air distribution orifices being provided above the diffusion bed, characterised in that said box (2) has on the one hand around its periphery a rim (10) , with the diffusion bed (25) of non-combustible material which fills said box (2) projecting over said rim (10) and, on the other hand, a central portion (11) which rises from its bottom wall (8) with its opening (8 a) and of which the upper portion (12) which is substantially flat and coplanar with said rim (10) is also covered by said non-combustible material, and that said rim (10) and said upper central portion (12) are apertured with secondary air intake orifices (16) to provide for virtually complete combustion at all points within said bed and around its periphery.
  2. A device according to claim 1 characterised in that said orifices (17) in each conduit (3) are disposed substantially facing the bottom wall (8) of said box (2).
  3. A device according to claim 1 or claim 2 and provided with a feed device (4) comprising a jet (23) mounted in the interior of a chamber (22) communicating with the exterior by means of orifices (24) each forming a primary air intake, characterised in that said chamber (22) communicates with the conduit (3) by way of a mixer device formed by a venturi tube (18) mounted in the interior of said conduit (3).
  4. A device according to one of claims 1 to 3 characterised in that the primary air and the secondary air are taken from the surrounding external atmosphere.
