Manual device for rolling cigarettes. The present invention relates to a manual device for rolling cigarettes, comprising a frame having two lateral parts and a bearing part arranged between these two parts, and a guided roller which can be moved above, this part of. support, a flexible member being fixed to the frame and not sant on the support part and the roller without being stretched,
.so as to make it possible to form a gutter intended to contain tobacco and to be moved on the support piece by means of the roller in order to form the cigarette.
In known devices of this type, the bearing part on which the gutter formed by the flexible member moves is fixed relative to guides of the roller. It follows that, when the gutter receives a load of tobacco too strong for: the intended diameter of the cigarettes and according to which the dimensions of the gutter are adjusted, the forged cigarette becomes too hard or cannot be rolled. due to the jamming caused on the support. The object of the present invention is to make it possible to remedy these drawbacks.
For this purpose, the apparatus according to the invention is arranged so as to allow an elastic relative movement between the roller and the support during the movement of the latter during the formation of a cigarette.
The accompanying drawing shows, by way of example and schematically, one embodiment of the object of the invention.
Figs. 1 to 31 show this embodiment in longitudinal section for different positions of the roller during the manufacture of a cigarette; Fig. 4 is a cross section along the line IV-IV of FIG. 1, -the tape being removed.
The frame has a base plate 1 and. two side parts 2 each provided with a longitudinal guide groove 3. A roller 6 is carried by a support bracket 4, made of curved metal wire, the arms 5 of which each engage in one of the grooves 3. The curved ends at right angles to the arms 5 form pivots for the roller 6 and engage in axial holes made in the ends of the latter.
On the base plate 1 is fixed, between the parts 2, a support piece 7, for example made of wood, the width of which corresponds to the distance between these two side parts 2. Its length is less than that of the base plate 1. In profile, this part 7 has the following shape:
a part 8, thick, which serves for its attachment to the base plate 1, a part 9, adjoining. the previous and relatively thin with respect to the first, and a front part 10, which ends in a face 11 constituting an inclined plane which ends in a flat upper surface 12 arranged substantially parallel to the grooves 3 and below them- this. This surface 12 is at least as long as the average width of a sheet of cigarette paper, but preferably a little longer than this. The surface 13: adjoining the surface 12 is slightly inclined towards the part 8 of the support part 7.
Thanks .à its thin part 9, the support piece 7 can yield elastically when pressing on its free end op posed to its part 81.
On the support part 7 and the roller 6 passes a flexible tape 14 of the same width as this part 7. It is fixed, by one of its ends, on the base plate 1, for example by nailing, and retained by the 'other between part 8 of part 7 and base plate 1, these two parts being fixed to each other by screws.
The flexible tape 14, consisting for example of a strip of fabric, is long enough not to be stretched over the part 7 and the roller 6 @, and to allow to form between these two parts a gutter 15 intended to receive the tobacco load T required for making a cigarette.
The operation of this device is as follows: The different parts: being in the position shown in fig. 1, a load of tobacco T is placed in the gutter 15 & it is distributed over the width of the strip 14 between the side parts 2.
The roller 6 is then moved by means of the caliper 4 in the position shown in FIG. 2, by sliding the arms 5 of the caliper in the grooves 3. During this movement, the tape 14 slides on the roller 6 and when the latter reaches the position shown in the drawing, the tobacco load T is clamped in the pocket formed, behind it, by this tape 14 on the inclined plane 11 of the part 7.
A sheet 16 of gummed cigarette paper is then placed on one of its edges and, after having moistened the latter, flat on the tape 14, facing the roller 6 ,, and it continues to move the latter in the same direction, which causes the winding of the sheet 16 around the load of tobacco T contained in the pocket of the tape. The elasticity of the part 7 ensures a normal clamping of the tobacco load, even if it is a little stronger than expected.
The clamping of the tobacco takes place during the movement of the roller on the surface 12. As soon as the roller arrives on the inclined surface 13 ,, the cigarette formed is gradually released as the clamping between the roller and the surface of part 7 decreases, and finally falls when it reaches the end of part 8 of this part 7.
It is clear that the support piece 7 could have a shape other than that shown and, instead of being made of wood, it could for example be made of sheet steel.
On the other hand, one could, in a variant, also use a support part fixed relative to the frame and, to allow the elastic relative movement between the roller and this part, either make the roller support by elastically mounted bearings. , or cause the roller to be carried by a support similar to the caliper 4 and moving in guides elastically mounted on the frame so as to be able to yield under the effect of a force exerted on the roller.
The arrangement shown in the drawing makes it possible to adjust the tension of the tape 14 and, consequently, the size of the gutter 15 at will, by placing a wedge of a chosen size between the end of part 8 of the support and tape.
