Fixing device comprising a nut and a threaded rod. The present invention relates to a positive fixing device of the type comprising a nut and a threaded rod.
This device is intended in particular for holding the wheel of a bicycle to the frame thereof, the threaded rod being the axis of the wheel. It can, however, be used for other purposes, for example to attach a magneto lighting to a. cycle, from an automobile wheel to its support spindle, from an automobile spare wheel to its support, etc.
The device according to the invention is charac terized in that its nut has the shape of a body of revolution and holes made parallel to its axis and arranged asymmetrically with respect to the geometric axis of this nut, while to ensure that the actuation of this nut can only take place by means of a key having projections arranged to be able to engage in these holes.
The accompanying drawing shows, by way of example, an embodiment and a variant of the device forming the subject of the invention, as applied to the attachment of a cycle wheel.
Fig. 1 is an axial sectional view thereof. Fig. 2 is a sectional view of a wrench used to unscrew the nut.
Fig. 3, is a front view of this key. Fig. 4 is an axial sectional view of a variant of the safety nut shown in FIG. 1.
Fig. 5 is a side view of a variant of the key intended to be used to actuate the nut according to FIG. 4.
In fig. 1, there is shown at 1 the hub of a cycle wheel - and at 2i, the axle bearing this hub. One of the branches 3 of the cycle fork is fixed to the axle 2 by means of a safety nut 4 which, unlike the nuts usually used to hold the fork on the wheel axle, has the form of a body of revolution. This nut has two frustoconical parts 5, 6 between which there is an annular region 7 perpendicular to its axis. In this annular region, four holes 8 are made, the axes of which are parallel to the geometric axis of the nut.
These holes are arranged asymmetrically with respect to this geometric axis. Holes 8 are uneven depths. In fig. 1, only one of these holes can be seen, which passes right through the region 6s. The key shown in FIG. 2 has four pegs 9 arranged relative to the axis of this key in the same way as the holes 8 relative to the axis of the nut. These dowels are of unequal length, the length of each of them corresponding to the depth of the respective hole 8.
It is clear that by threading the frustoconical inner part 10 of the key on the part 5 of corresponding shape of the nut, it is possible to make the pegs 9 coincide with the respective holes 8 by a simple rotation of this key. This done, we thread the plugs in the holes and we can actuate the nut. The key is provided with diametrically opposed arms 11 facilitating its actuation.
It will be noted that thanks to the truncated conical shape of the outer wall of the nut, the unscrewing of the latter by means of pliers is made practically impossible. Only a person in possession of the special key shown in fig. 2 is able to unscrew the nut and remove the wheel.
In the variant according to fi-. 4, the nut 4 'has the shape of a truncated cone and the holes 8 are made such that their axis passes through the side wall 12, which is frustoconical. The key intended for the actuation of this nut is in the form of a disc 13 provided with fins 14 and pins 15 intended to engage in the holes 8, which are, as in the form of 'execution described, arranged asymmetrically with respect to the axis of the nut. The co-operating of the pins 15 and of the holes 8 is easily done by pressing the end of the plugs 15 against the frustoconical side wall 12 and by turning the key 13 until the desired coincidence is achieved and that the dowels 15 can be inserted into the holes 8.
In the embodiment according to FIGS. 1. to 3, holes 8 and pegs 9 instead of being of unequal lengths, could be of equal length.
When the device according to the invention is used for fixing a cycle lighting magneto, its nut and its threaded rod are part of this fixing; likewise, in the case of fixing an automobile wheel to its support spindle or a spare wheel to its support.
