Process for the preparation of a leuculosulfuric acid ester of a nub dye. Vat dyes that form the skeleton of the formula

furthermore, if appropriate, a variety of substituents such as halogen, acylamino, arylamino, especially anthraquinonylamino groups or associated carbazole ring systems provide, as is known, valuable shades which are distinguished by excellent fastness properties.
If one tries now to convert these vat dyes into leuco-sulfuric acid esters by the usual methods, ester salts are obtained whose colorations differ from those of the starting vat dyes and have lower fastness properties than these.
It has now been found that the named dyes can be converted into leuco-sulfuric acid esters which completely correspond to the original dye in terms of the shade and the fastness properties of the dyeings obtained if, in an otherwise customary procedure, pyridine homologues with a boiling range of 123- 128 C and copper used as a reducing agent.
The present patent now relates to a process for the preparation of a leuco-sulfuric acid ester of a vat dye, characterized in that the di- (1'-antbrachinonyl) according to Swiss patent specification No. 148372 is produced by the action of alkalis
-6-Bzi-diaminobenzanthron available vat dye with metallic copper and a (xeniisch from an esterifying derivative of sulfuric acid and pyridine homologues.
The leuco-sulfuric acid ester thus obtained dissolves in water with a yellow-brown color and dyes the fiber in olive-gray shades. The colorations match in tone and authenticity properties, especially in terms of chlorine fastness, with the colorations of the starting vat dye.
<I> Example 1: </I> In a (leniisch of 200 parts of technical pyridine homologues from the boiling range 123 to 128 'C and 40 parts of chlorosulfonic acid are added with stirring at about <B> 20-30' </B> C 20 parts of the finely ground vat dye obtained according to Swiss patent specification <B> No. </B> 148372 and 20 parts of copper powder.
After stirring for about six hours at about 40 ° C., the red-brown esterification mixture is poured out in about 1000 parts of ice water, the complex copper-pyridine salt of the leuco-sulfuric acid ester separating out as a viscous mass.
It is separated from the excess aqueous liquid and converted into the sodium salt of the leucosulfuric acid ester by stirring for about one hour with a solution of 50 parts of 50 B6 sodium hydroxide solution in 1000 parts of water at about 70-80 ° C. The copper residue is then suctioned off and the filtrate is concentrated in a vacuum to about 500 parts. By adding about 100 parts of potassium chloride, the leucosulfuric acid ester is precipitated as the potassium salt and, after suctioning off, further processed into paste or powder in the usual way.
<I> Example 2: </I> In a mixture of 235 parts of technical pyridine homologues with a boiling range of 123 to 128 C and 50 parts of chlorosulphonic acid at around 20-30 C, 20 parts of the finely ground obtained according to Swiss Patent No. 148372 are added Vat dye and 20 parts of copper powder and the rest of the procedure is as indicated in Example 1: This gives a leucosulfuric acid ester which has the same properties as that prepared according to Example 1.
