Grinding machine. In your grinding machines, and especially those for grinding gear tooth profiles., It is always difficult to ensure complete protection against abrasive particles and possibly sprinkling water, members guiding the table .as well as other mechanisms, such as the divider mechanism, the bearings of the workpiece spindle and possibly the mechanism for generating the propeller in the helical grinding.
This incomplete protection results in premature wear of the components and the loss of the precision essentially necessary in this type of machine.
The present invention relates to a grinding machine overcoming these drawbacks, by the fact that it comprises a casing intended to protect the delicate parts of the grinding machine against abrasives, this casing being constituted by panels protection attached to the frame of the machine and -completing the latter so as to form, with the base and the riser of the machine, a housing closed on all sides,
with the exception of places where moving organs. of, the machine must come out of this housing, where it has mu nies -devices, sealing.
The accompanying drawing shows, schematically and by way of example, some embodiments of the present invention.
Fig. 1 is a side elevation with section of the grinding machine according to the invention; Fig. 2 is an end view; Fig. 3 is an enlarged section showing a particular arrangement of the divider bearing; Fig. 4 is an enlarged section taken along line IV-IV of FIG. 1.
In the figures of the drawing, 2 designates the body. of the dividing mechanism, 3 its bearing, 4 the table of the longitudinal displacement carriage, and 5 the guide of the table; 6 designates the base of the machine and 7 the column on which moves the grinding wheel carriage 8 in the usual manner.
All the above-mentioned components are enclosed in a housing comprising, at the rear of the machine, between the base 6 and the column 7, a frame element 9 and at the front a second frame element having a vertical wall 10 which is extended by a horizontal part 11, parallel to the plane of the table and, connecting with the base by a return at right angles 12. Frame elements 13 and 14 are also arranged on the sides of the, machine (fig. 2).
All these frame elements, in association with the base and the column of the machine, thus constitute a casing entirely closed on all sides, in which the active components are closed and sheltered. The elements can be in pressed sheet metal or in cast iron, and can be totally or partially removable.
The bearing 3 of the divider, supporting 1 <n spindle 15 which attacks the mandrel holder; - part, is mounted in cantilever with respect to the body 2 of the divider and it preferably ends with an externally cylindrical part 16, whose length is substantially equal to the longitudinal stroke of the table 4.
This cylindrical part 7 6 necessarily passes through the wall 10 and., To seal at this location, it is; a stuffing box is provided, the packing of which stops projections and abrasive dust, while allowing the axial movement of the bearing.
The stuffing box packing may rest directly on the bearing, but a preferred arrangement is that of fig. 3 consisting of a cap 17 formed by a hollow cylinder integral with the spindle 15 of the divider and on which the gasket 18. is clamped. The cap covers the front of the bearing without being in direct contact with it. and allows the. rotation of the shaft while the division is taking place and possibly. in case of helical grinding, during the generation of the helix.
As the front bearing 3 of the divider is cantilevered with respect to the body of the divider, it is preferable, for the correct balancing of the forces, that the carriage 4 extends sufficiently forward and in particular until its anterior face is plumb with the vertical plane XY passing through the axis of the grinding wheel when this cha riot is in its position. more remote.
The bearing 3, the body 2 of the divider and the carriage link 4 constitute a C-shaped assembly which, optionally, can be cast in one piece.
To allow work with a tailstock, the carriage 4 can receive one or two fixed or removable arms 19 and 20, extending it at the front, cylindrical or prismatic, forming a support for the tailstock 21 of the tailstock. These arms are preferably placed parallel to the Longitudi nal axis and pass through the wall 12 of the protective casing which, at this point, will also be provided with known sealing devices, gland, simple gasket or the like.
The anterior part of the carriage, that is to say the upper surface of the part of the carriage situated in front of the divider as well as the corresponding part of the housing which covers it, are preferably curved. , as shown at 22 and 23 (fig. 4), in order to increase the diameter of the gears to be grinded admitted, on the machine.
Apart from the passage openings minus cable glands provided in the walls of the frame, inspection holes are provided in the other walls, in particular the wall of the casing 13, to allow the adjustments of the divider and, if necessary. , of the propeller generation mechanism. During work,
openings are closed by doors.
It is therefore possible, thanks to the present invention, to protect the delicate parts of a grinding machine against abrasives.
The front bearing of the divider body can be cantilevered on this body. and the opening through which it passes through the casing can be provided with a stuffing box allowing both the longitudinal advance of this bearing and the rotation of the spindle of the machine "the operation of the latter is not hampered by no way.
