Quelques formes -d'exécution de l'objet -de l'invention sont représentés, à titre d'exem ples, au dessin annexé, dans lequel: La fig. 1 est une coupe transversale, à travers une forme d'exécution d'un agitateur conforme à. l'invention; La fig. 2 est une élévation longitudinale -de la moitié droite d'une deuxième forme d'exécution de l'agitateur, cette élévation étant vue partiellement en coupe, selon la ligne 2-2 -de la fig. 3;
Rotary agitator for vacuum cleaner. The present invention relates to a rotary agitator for vacuum cleaners of the type in which the agitator carries a brush.
In such hollow tubular agitators, it is desirable not to omit the usual shaft extending longitudinally through the agitator, as this results in less exact alignment of the support bearings at the ends of the agitator. agitator and consequently more wear of these bearings. At the same time, if a normal straight shaft is employed in such a hollow agitator, the. The bristle length is limited by the shaft, resulting in less efficient agitation and reduced brush life.
The term "bristles" is used herein for convenience and is intended to include equivalent brushing elements.
According to the present invention, there is provided on a stirrer with a hollow rotary tubular body, having a longitudinal shaft not sant through the tubular body, a slot in the. circumferential wall -of this -corps, through which the bristles of a brush protrude. the inner or back end is placed inside the body of the agitator and one side of the shaft.
Thus, in one embodiment of the invention, the inner end or back of the brush is arranged so inside the hollow tubular body that the bristles passing from this back through the groove made in the circumferential wall of this body, do not extend radially: inside the agitator, the space available in the hollow body for the bristles, measured in the direction of the length of the bristles , being greater than the radial distance -from the periphery of the agitator to the periphery of the shaft.
The brush is preferably adjustable in the direction of the length of the bristles. For example, the agitator can have an interiorly adjustable member, .pivotated about a longitudinal axis, a brush back attached to this adjustable member at a point remote from the pivot axis and means for adjusting the member around its pivot to move the bristles of the brush in the direction of their length. The adjustable member may include a lever arm positioned at. the interior of the hollow body of the stirrer and means accessible from the exterior of this hollow body for adjusting the position of the lever arm.
In this construction, part of the means for adjusting and maintaining the brush is preferably spaced circumferentially from the slot or from the groove in order to balance the agitator around its axis.
In addition, guides may be provided at the sides of the groove, between which the bristles pass so as to limit the lateral movement of the bristles, thereby reducing the length of the free part of the bristles and allowing this length to be reduced. be kept substantially constant by the adjustment, as the ends of the bristles wear away.
A few embodiments of the object of the invention are shown, by way of example, in the accompanying drawing, in which: FIG. 1 is a cross section, through an embodiment of a stirrer according to. invention; Fig. 2 is a longitudinal elevation of the right half of a second embodiment of the agitator, this elevation being seen partially in section, along the line 2-2 of FIG. 3;
Fig. "3 is a section taken along line 3-3; of Fig. 2, and Fig. 4 is a cross section of a still modified embodiment of the agitator. As shown. in Fig. 1, the agitator comprises a hollow metal body A, generally cylindrical, on the surface of which are stamped two ribs B of support and helical.
The material of which the body A is made is pressed internally to form opposite walls C and D of a groove intended to receive a brush.
A longitudinal shaft E passes through the center, at. through the body A, and, so that the brush can avoid this tree, the walls. C and D of said groove are inclined so that the groove is directed to one side of the shaft.
The brush -has a back, F and G bristles. The back. is 'held by means of one end of a lever II, the other end of which is pivoted in H' to the body of the agitator. The lever is pivoted at an intermediate point HZ to. a threaded bush J. The arm of the lever H, carrying the brush, is curved so as to be able to pass partly around the shaft E.
The sleeve J is tapped to receive an adjustment screw Jl which passes through the body of the agitator, so as to. to be able to be rotated, but without being able to move longitudinally, with respect to. this body. So the screw.
J1 can be operated from outside the agitator to adjust the <I> J </I> socket and, therefore, the <I> H, </I> arm to move the bristles longitudinally. () It will be noted that the sleeve J and the screw J 'are placed in a united position practically diametrically opposite to. that of the brush slot.
As shown in the drawing, the groove does not present -de bottom and the walls C and D are inclined so that their: internal edges form. guides for the poila and engage with opposite sides thereof. Thus, assuming the bristles protrude a definite amount beyond the agitator surface, the. length of the. free part of the hairs remains constant, regardless of the wear and tear on the ends of his hairs, and they are brought back to. their initial position by adjusting screw Jl.
Figs. 2 and 3 show the application of the invention to the type of arrangement, in which the adjustment of the position of the brush can be carried out, by rotating the brush end by end.
This type of arrangement is known, it is not necessary to describe it in detail. The two ends of the brush have stops K '<I> and </I> K2 à. different levels and these stops are pushed by a spring L against a shoulder M to. the left end and respectively against a shoulder M 'at the right end.
A shoulder M2 is also provided at the right end. The .difference in level between the shoulder M and the shoulder M 'is equal to that between the stops K' and Kz of the back of the brush which corresponds to the difference in level between the shoulders M2 <I> and </I> 11, tan say that the difference between the shoulders M2 and M 'is twice as large.
Thus, if the brush is pushed longitudinally to the left, so as to be removed, and if then it is replaced, after having been turned end to end, its position will have been modified and it will occupy. a position parallel to that which she previously occupied.
Fig 3 shows the inclination of the brush groove, with respect to the radii passing through. through it, and clearly indicates that a much deeper groove can be used than: -this is the case, when the groove is radial.
Fig. 4 shows yet another dis position, in which the brush is fixed. In this case, the back I 'of the brush is hand held by means of screws N, which pass through it, in the bottom of the groove.
