Device for controlling a rotating auxiliary graduated member of a timepiece. There are many chronograph timepieces which include, in addition to the usual fixed dial bearing standard chronometric graduations, an auxiliary rotary graduated member, concentric with the axis of the hands. In some of them, the rotating auxiliary graduated member is placed inside the case and must be operated from the outside by means of a control device independent of the winding stem.
The object of the invention is precisely a device of this type, characterized in that the control rod carries an idle pinion meshing directly with the toothed ring of the rotary auxiliary graduated member and capable of being secured to the control rod by a coupling governed by an axial displacement of said rod.
The accompanying drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the device forming the subject of the invention.
Fig. 1 is a front view thereof and FIG. 2 a section along line 11-II of FIG. 1. The timepiece fitted with the device shown is a chronograph watch comprising, in addition to the usual fixed dial 3, a rotating graduated circle 4 adjusted centrally to the fixed dial and provided on its inner face with a toothed crown 5.
The device for actuating the graduated circle 4 comprises a control rod 6 which can be operated from the outside by means of an additional crown, not shown, and on which is mounted a pinion 7 which engages directly in the ring gear 5. Pinion 7 is housed in a slot made in plate 8. Rod 6 also carries one of the elements 9 of an axial coupling, the other element of which is secured to idler gear 7. A spring 10 tends to keep the two elements of the coupling engaged by pushing the element 9 integral with the rod 6 outwards.
In this position the pinion 7 is therefore made integral with the control rod and the graduated circle 4 can thus be actuated at will to bring it into the desired position. By pressing the crown of the control rod, the two elements of the coupling are separated and the graduated circle, still in engagement with the pinion 7, remains locked in the position it occupies at the time of this maneuver. A spring 11, cooperating with a double cone 12 of the control rod, ensures the latter in one or other of its axial positions.
The device shown has the merit of being simple, of taking up very little space, and of being able to be housed entirely inside a normal watch case. It goes without saying that it can be applied to any auxiliary rotary graduated member disposed outside or inside the fixed dial, whether or not con centric to the axis of the hands. The coupling can be arranged so that the clutch takes place by pushing the rod inwards and the disengagement by pulling it.
