Adjustable maximum flow valve. The present invention relates to a valve with an adjustable maximum flow rate, in particular for a central heating radiator.
The valve object of the invention is characterized - in that it comprises a valve formed of a single-walled body, angularly displaceable under the action of a central rod on which is wedged the control member. hand control of the valve, in that, for ordinary adjustment, it comprises a stroke limiter member which is angularly fixed relative to the central rod and movable relative to a central sleeve freely mounted on the central rod, means being provided to limit the angular displacement of the stroke limiting member relative to said sleeve, and in that it comprises,
for the prior adjustment of the maximum flow rate, a locking nut screwed onto the body of the valve and designed to lock the central sleeve in a chosen angular position relative to the lateral duct of the valve controlled by the plug.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, two embodiments of the valve forming the subject of the present invention.
Fig. 1 is an axial horizontal section of the first embodiment.
Fig. 2 is a cross section along II-II of FIG. 1.
Fig. 3 is a transversal section along III-III of FIG. 1.
Fig. 4 is an axial horizontal section of the second embodiment. FIG. 5 is a cross section along V-V of FIG. 4.
Fig. 6 is a side view of the plug and the members serving to actuate it.
The valve shown in fig. 1 to 3 is a valve for a central heating radiator. It comprises a body 1 having a thread 2 for its attachment to a duct for supplying hot water, not shown. Inside the body 1 there is a wooden bucket 3, the lateral opening 4 of which controls the arrival of water to a lateral duct 5 provided with a threaded part 6 mounted with a ball joint at 7 to be fixed, by means of the thread 8, on a radiator not shown. The plug 3 is formed by a cylindrical body with a single wall, which is split at 9 to ensure good contact against the body 1.
The base of the plug 3 remote from the thread 2 is provided with a square hole 10 in which is also engaged a square end, a central rod 11 on the other square end of which is wedged the handwheel 12 of actuation. of the plug 3. A retaining screw 13 holds the flywheel 12 in place on the central rod 11. Between its two square ends, the central rod Il has a cylindrical part on which are threaded freely, on the one hand, a central sleeve 14, in contact by its base with the plug and, on the other hand, a nut 20 holding in place sealing means, not shown. On the upper square part of the central rod, against the flywheel, is threaded a stroke limiter 15.
A locking nut 18 is threaded freely on the cylindrical part of the central sleeve 14 and is screwed into an internal threaded part 16 of the body 1.
The sleeve 14 is provided with, its base in contact with the plug of a frustoconical part 17 pressing on a seat of the same shape made in the body 1. The sleeve 14 can be moved angularly by means of a key, thanks to two flats 19. It can be locked in any desired angular position relative to the body l., simply by screwing. the locking nut 18 fully, which presses the conical part 17 on its seat.
A notch 21 in the form of a secfeur is made on the central sleeve 14. A finger 22 belonging to the stroke limiter member 15 is engaged in this notch so as to. abut against its ends 23, 24 when turning the flywheel 12 in one direction or the other.
A mark, of black color for example, is provided at 25, on the central sleeve 14. A second mark, of red color for example, is provided at 26 on this sleeve. The locking nut 18 is provided with flats 27 to allow it to be screwed and unscrewed with a wrench.
An outer cap 28 open at its two ends is applied by one of them to the body 1. Against its other end is the steering wheel 12. This outer cap forms the side wall of a chamber in which the central sleeve 14, the locking nut 18 and the stroke limiter member 15. These three members are therefore made directly accessible by removing the outer cap 28, to allow the prior re- (Ylage of the valve as we will indicate it.
The operation of the valve shown is as follows: The valve being assumed to be correctly mounted, that is to say the finger 22 opposite the black father 25 and in contact with the end 23 of the notch when the red mark 26 is opposite the side duct 5, we have the maximum possible passage section with the plug (fig. 1 and 2).
If, after slightly unscrewing the locking nut 18, to release the central sleeve 14, it is turned, the central rod and the plug rotating with it (the finger 22 and the end 23 of the notch 21 therefore remaining in contact), the mark 26 is moved and the section of passage through the plug 3 is gradually reduced since the opening 4 of the latter coincides less and less with the duct 5. The position of the red mark 26 in relation to it. in conduit 5 informs the fitter about this degree of coincidence.
It will therefore be possible, simply by moving this reference mark as we have just indicated, adjust the valve so that the maximum passage section achievable with the plug by actuating the flywheel, represents a given fraction of the maximum possible section, which corresponds lays, as already seen, at the position shown in the drawing. Once this adjustment is obtained, the fitter tightens the nut 18 to block the sleeve 14. From this moment, the flywheel, and with it the plug, can be rotated between two positions corresponding to the stop of the finger 22 against the ends 23 and 24 of the notch 21. When the finger 22 abuts at 23, the valve is opened as much as possible, given the prior adjustment of the position of the central sleeve 14.
When this finger is at 24, the valve is always closed, regardless of the prior setting. The angle at which the plug can be turned, whatever the previous setting, therefore remains equal to the stroke between the maximum open position shown in the drawing and that of total closure of the plug, with the overlap required for this. -Here (which would correspond to the position of the valve for which the finger 22 would be at 24, for the setting indicated in the drawing).
It will be noted that if the valve as it is represented, is mounted so that its axis is horizontal and the lateral exit to the left for an observer looking at the valve in the direction of the axis, facing the handwheel, the opening 4 of the valve is turned upwards, when. the valve is closed. This avoids air buffers.
If the outlet duct is placed on the right and you want to have the same advantage, it suffices to remove the stroke limiter member 15 from the position shown, opposite the black mark 25 and thread it onto the rod 11 in an angular position 90 from the first, the finger 22 then being on the side of the end 24 of the notch 21, when the plug is in the position shown in FIG. 2. In this case, the movements. opening and closing of the handwheel will be reversed compared to the previous case.
The valve shown in fig. 4 to 6 comprises a bushel 3, of frustoconical shape, actuated by a central rod 29, fixed to. remains at its great base. A sleeve 14, similar to that of the first embodiment, is freely mounted on the rod 29. A gland, not shown, is naturally provided as in the preceding example. A locking nut 1 $ secures the immobilization of the sleeve 14 in the desired position, once the prior adjustment of the maximum flow has been established. A flat 19 is provided on the sleeve 14 in order to facilitate its adjustment.
The bottom formed by the large base of the plug 3 has a passage 30 establishing communication between them. two faces of this bottom, in order to equalize the pressure on them. A spring 31 bearing, on the one hand, on the outer face of the large base of the plug and, on the other hand, in a housing 32 of the face of the sleeve 14 arranged facing the plug, exerts on the latter a constant pressure, applying it to its, seat in the body 1.
By suitably choosing the spring 31, we therefore obtain that the plug is applied to its seat with any desired pressure, practically independent of the pressure of the fluid passing through the valve.
For the ordinary adjustment of the flow, a pin 33 is provided, fixed to the exterior face of the large base of the plug 3 which, in this case, acts as a stroke limiter. A stopper in the form of a neck sector 34 is provided on the face of the sleeve 14 located opposite the plug. This pin 33 and this stop 34 are provided with a length such that they can cooperate by contact. A screw 35, made of stainless steel and passing through the wall of the body 1, constitutes a stop member fixed with respect to this body.
The amount of which the screw 35 projects inside the body 1 is such that the pin 33 of the stroke limiter member and the stop 34 of the sleeve can both abut against it.
The screw 35 and the end of the stop 34 against which the pin 33 can come into contact, are intended to play with respect to the stroke limiting member that this pin constitutes, the same role that the ends 24 play respectively. and 23 of the cutout 21 relative to the stroke limiter member 22, in the previous example.
The control opening 4 provided in the lateral face of the valve 3 has the general shape of a rectangular trapezoid, the oblique side 36 of which constitutes the leading edge of the opening 4. A slot 37, parallel to the bases of the opening. plug 3, extends the lateral opening of the plug control over a certain arc. The operation of this second embodiment is as follows: When the members 33, 34 and 35 are located in the position shown in FIG. 5, the bushel occupies its maximum open position. In this position, a mark 38 on the sleeve angularly coincides with a mark 39 on the body of the valve.
By operating the handwheel 12, the progressive closing of the valve is produced thanks to the obliquity of the edge 36 of the opening 4.
The valve shown has its outlet, lateral to the right and under these conditions, the opening 4 of the plug is turned downwards when the valve is closed, the axis being: assumed to be horizontal, the slot 37 therefore allows it to be evacuated. tion of air buffers which, in its absence, would occur in this case.
In the case where, on the contrary, the valve would present its. : lateral exit on the left, for an observer looking at the steering wheel from the front, the lateral opening of the valve would then be turned upwards, when the valve is closed, the air buffers could therefore escape without further.
If it is desired to carry out a prior adjustment such as the, passage section corresponding to the extreme open position of the steering wheel 12 represents only a fraction. of the maximum passage section, the locking nut 18 is slightly unscrewed and the mark 38 is brought into the desired angular position, included between the mark. 39 and another father 40 also provided on body 1. This is done. the sleeve 14 is blocked by screwing the nut 18.
This movement of the sleeve has the effect of rotating the. stop 34 of a certain amount in the direction of the needles of a watch in FIG. 5, so that the travel that the pin 33 can perform between this stop 34 and the screw 35 is reduced.
The position of the plug for which the pin 33 is in contact with the stop 34 corresponds to the maximum passage section ad put, that is to say at the. fraction fixed in advance of the maximum possible passage section at the outlet of the bushel. This position may correspond, for example, to that indicated in phantom lines at 33 '.
It can therefore be seen that, in this case, contrary to that of the first embodiment, the stroke effected by the flywheel 12 is not constant, but depends on the prior adjustment, that is to say on the variable position of the stop 34. The position corresponding to the total closing of the valve remains the same since the screw 35 does not change position.
It is obvious that the stop 34 could be replaced by one or more pins and that the pin 33 could be replaced by a stop manufactured with the plug. The screw 35 could also be replaced by a stopper manufactured with the body 1.
