Quick gauge device for dispensing a liquid. The rapid measuring device for the distribution of a liquid according to the main patent comprises a measuring chamber fitted in the core of a plug and which fills from the liquid inlet chamber which is in direct communication with the reservoir delivering the liquid under pressure.
It has been found that this arrangement has drawbacks which are revealed in particular during this. the filling of the gauge chamber and, on the other hand, coming from the nature of the material used for making the plug, this material undergoing oxidation by the acidulated liquid to be debited, hence an increase in friction making it difficult to kernel operation.
The object of the present invention is to obviate these drawbacks and imperfections; in the measuring device which is the subject, it has improved construction details and provided for the choice of appropriate materials.
The appended drawing, given by way of example, represents an embodiment of this measuring device combined with a carbonating device for delivering unfermented drinks saturated with carbonic acid.
Fig. 1 is a vertical section taken along the line I-I of FIG. 1, of the measuring device. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section along the line II-II of FIG. 1.
Fig. 3 is a vertical section of the gasifier device.
Fig. 4 is an overview in perspective.
In the embodiment shown, the apparatus comprises a central part 1, in the form of a valve plug with a horizontal axis, enclosing a hollow core 2, which at the same time forms the gauge chamber for the liquid to be dispensed. This chamber has an opening 3, through which the safe liquid can be evacuated, by the rotation of the core, in the lower part 4, in the form of a chute.
The central part 1 comprises on each side, diametrically opposed, two pipes 5 and 6, each connected to a tube 7 respectively 8, in the form of columns, the first of which communicates with the receptacle containing the liquid to be debited, by the species the gasifier device (fig. 3), which will be discussed later, and the second communicates with the open air. These two columns 7 and 8 constitute at the same time the mounting brackets for the apparatus: t, a counter or cabinet 9, serving as a de bit table (fig. 4).
The valve 1 is surmounted by an inlet chamber 10, containing a float 11, guided during its movement by rods 12 and 13 sliding in the supports 14. respectively 15. At its upper part, the float 11 is provided with 'a valve 16, allowing the evacuation of air or carbon dioxide from the gauge. in the beginning. of its filling operation and, if applicable, of the excess liquid discharged from the gauge. The air or excess liquid is discharged through channel 17 which opens into the. column 8. The cover 18 of the chamber 10 is provided with an axial inspection and cleaning bore, closed by a screw 41.
To reduce wear, the hollow core 2. which acts as a gauge, rotates in the bore of the plug 1 in a sleeve 19. with the same taper as the core 2. This sleeve, made of unalterable metal is attached to the plug and pierced with three openings communicating, on the one hand, with the opening 3 of the core and, on the other hand, with the communication openings 20, on the side of the column 7 and 21, on the side of the chamber 10 of the float .
The hollow core 2 is carefully fitted into the plug 1, in order to avoid any loss of liquid due to a lack of sealing. For this purpose, it is provided at the ends with lining 22, 23, made of asbestos, as well as with a spring. catch 24, on the side of the front head 25. This head is set in a ring 26, provided with two sloping notches 27 and 28, for its drive in one direction during the oscillations of the crank 29 of which the hub 30, constituting. a housing for the cam 31, rotates in the bore of the cover 32 which closes the plug 1 on the front side.
A spring 33 housed in the hub 30 presses on the cam 31, allowing it to disengage from its grip with the drive notches 27 and 28 by the inclined planes of the ring 26, when the crank 29 is turned backwards. .
The oscillation of the crank 29 is limited to half a turn. To this end, the cover 32 is provided with two stops 34, diametrically opposed, against which comes touching alternately a finger 35 adjoining the crank.
The posterior end 36 of the core is used to be connected to a counter 37, making it possible to total the number of turns of the core and thus to count the volume of the Ii quide delivered.
The precision adjustment of the capacity of the gauge chamber is effected by means of a plug 38, in the form of a screw with adjusting washers, corresponding to the fractions of the volume to be debited.
The seeps which could occur in the long run between the plug and the nucleus are collected at the anterior and posterior part, by tubes 39 respectively 40. directed towards the evacuation column 8.
The gasifier device (Fig. 3), designed to improve the juice by its saturation of carbonic acid, comprises a metal container 41 coated on its inner walls with a protective coating against the corrosion of the acidulated liquid and intended to store the liquid. unfermented fruit and grape juice. The receptacle is closed by a cover 42 which carries a removable diffuser 43, made of stainless steel, terminating at its upper part with an injector 44, for the admission of carbonic acid. Concentrically to the diffuser is screwed therein a tube 45 for the flow of liquid, the tap 46 of which is connected to the column 7 for supplying the gauge.
The container 41 is provided at its upper part with a stopcock 47, making it possible to control the height of the level of the liquid in the container as well as to evacuate the air re-closed in the container at the time of filling. A tap 48 is used for filling the container with the liquid to be debited, coming from a barrel or tank. To refresh the juice to be dispensed, the container is surmounted by an ice tub 49.
The measuring device described operates as follows: First of all, the receptacle 41 of the carbonating device is filled with fruit juice, for example cider, by the tap 48. The device is placed under pressure, for example by its connection at 44 with a carboy of carbonic acid expanded to a pressure of 2 to 3 atm., regulated by a pressure-regulator, so as to allow the flow at will. By opening the tap 46, the pressurized liquid enters the column 7, following the path indicated by the arrows in fig. 1..
During the first phase, the operation of the core 2 by means of the crank 29 gradually brings its opening 3 towards the upper opening 21, so that the liquid remaining in excess of the previous operation of the measuring valve being under pressure as a result of the closing of the valve 16, rushes into the gauge chamber of the core. Continuing its rotation, the core 2 will be located with its opening 3 opposite the opening 20, so that the pressurized liquid passes from the tubular column 7 into the core, filling the gauge chamber, pushing back air in channel 17, released in the meantime by the center point of float 11 which opens valve 16.
The excess liquid will accumulate in chamber 10, the float of which will then rise and apply valve 16 to its seat, sealing channel 17.
After the opening 20 has been closed, the second phase begins, that is to say the emptying of the gauge chamber. The opening 3 arrives towards the lower part of the plug and the contents of the gauge chamber, which is still under pressure, flows in a single jet into the chute 4, under which is the container to be filled, in the Species a glass 50, placed in a support 51, or guide, which serves to quickly center it in the suitable position under the chute, to avoid the loss of time or part of the liquid delivered by false maneuvers. To cut off the pressure, the outlet of the chute is fitted with a mesh 52. The depression produced in the chute 4 causes a call for air from the column 8, in the direction of arrow 53.
The two maneuvering phases described are obtained by the oscillation of the crank 29 in four stages. The core 2 first rotates in the direction of the arrow in fig. 1 until the finger 35 of the crank touches one of the stops 34 which corresponds to the end of the first phase. While the crank is brought back to its starting point, by reversing its course, the gauge chamber is filled with liquid, so that by restarting the stroke of the crank, the second phase is carried out, namely that of vi dange.
During the return of the crank to its initial position, the ratchet teeth of the cam 31 slide on the inclined planes of the drive notches 27, 28 of the ring 26 so that the gauge core remains stationary. , By reversing the crank stroke again, the cam 31 will cause the drive notches 27, 28 of the ring, fixed to the gauge core, so that the latter resumes its second phase stroke, to discharge the liquid in the chute 4 and fill the glass 50 which will contain the exact volume of liquid to be dispensed, for example two deciliters.
While the gauge chamber is emptying, the stroke of the crank is reversed to bring it back to the initial position, again engaging the cam 31 with the notches 27, 28, so that the next stroke of the crank , the opening 3 of the core returns again successively from the filling openings 21 and 20 and so on.
The filling of a glass therefore requires four oscillations of the crank, two of which to turn the core each time by half a turn and the other two, which alternate with the first, to give the time necessary for filling and, emptying the gauge chamber.
To avoid a depression in the gutter 4 during the flow of the liquid in the glass, the tubular column 8 allows the re-entry of the air, which facilitates and activates the rapid filling of the glasses.
