Machine tool used to give a predetermined shape to a part. The object of the present invention is a machine tool serving to give a predetermined shape to a part, constituted by a machine for grinding the threads and comprising two cams, one of which determines the profile of the workpiece in axial section and the 'other, its profile, in a section perpendicular to its axis, these two cams being mounted on the same axis and arranged so as to be able to be successively connected to a movement transmission device controlling the mobile organ producing the cut.
It is characterized in that this movement transmission device comprises, on the one hand, two reduction devices, each of which is specific to one of the cams and is constituted by an inclined plane with micrometric adjustment and, on the other hand, on the other hand, an articulated system controlled by a sliding part, itself controlled by the two cams, this system rolling on said inclined planes and resting on a member which regulates the distance from the axis of the grinding wheel to that of the part, so as to move this member when said articulated system rolls on inclined planes.
The accompanying drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the object of the present invention.
Fig. 1 is a plan view thereof and FIG. 2, a side elevational view, part in section. Fig. 3 shows a variant of a detail.
The machine shown is intended to produce taps or threaded cutters. It comprises two tables, one, 16, which can slide smoothly in the slides 15 and the other, 33, which can slide in the slides 33a, per pendicular to the previous ones. The table 33 carries bearings in which a cutting member consisting of a grinding wheel 21 can rotate; it is coupled to a rod 32 constituting the controlled element of a booster 31. On the table 16 are arranged two dolls 9 and 17, the first of which carries a rotating tip 8 and the second, a fixed tailstock 8a, , between which is mounted the part or glass 20.
On the tailstock 8, is mounted a tool with adjustable position 40 intended to cut the profile of the grinding wheel 21 (diamond point or harder grinding wheel, for example). 1 is the motor shaft carrying a pulley 2 which can be controlled by a motor not shown. This tree 1 is connected by a chain 10 â. the shaft 8, which is connected by a gear train 11 and 12, the composition of which may vary, to a lead screw 13 carried by the table 16 and rotating in a nut 14 fixed to the frame 15. The shaft 1. is also connected by a train of gears 4, 5, 6 and 7 to a shaft 3 carrying the two cams 18 and 1.9 and rotating at the same speed as the shaft 8.
The cam 18 is intended to generate the profile of the workpiece in an axial section passing through its geometrical axis, that is to say the profile of the thread, while the cam 19 is intended to generate a profile perpendicular to the 'axis of the workpiece, profile which will be, for example, the concen tric profile of a usual screw or the relief profile of a tap.
The device making it possible to connect one or the other of the cams 18 and 19 to the booster 31 comprises a sliding rod 97 portable two rollers 98 and 99 arranged on the same generator and able to come into operation successively, the first on the cam 18 and, the second, on the cam 19. 107 and 108 are two inclined planes succeeding each other in the direction of displacement of the rod 97. They are separated by a horizontal support part 1.14 and; each of them is rotatably mounted at one end on the frame, at 111, respectively at 12, while the other end is actuated by a micrometric screw 109, respectively 110.
These two screws allow the slope of each of the two planes to be adjusted very exactly. Opposite these is arranged the plate 113 which is integral with the rod 30, which is the driving member of the booster 31; the latter borrows the force necessary to move the table 33 from a pressurized fluid arriving through the conduit 35 and exiting through the conduit 36. The rod 97 carries, at its right end, an articulated parallelogram 101 itself carrying two rollers 102 and 103.
When the rod 97 slides, this parallelogram moves in the passage formed by the inclined plane 107 or 108 and by the plate 113, its roller 102 cooperating with one of the planes, while due to its roller 103 cooperates with the plate 113 which thus regulates the distance from the axis of the grinding wheel to that of the workpiece. The rod 97 carries, finally, two fixed collars 104 and 105, as well as two sliding plates 106 and 119, between which is mounted a coil spring 120. This spring is housed in a box 100 which can "be moved by net ma 100a.
In the position shown in the drawing, the res out 1.20 is supported. on the one hand, against the bottom right of the box 10 (). stationary, and, on the other hand, against the collar 104 applying the roller 99 against the cam 19. This cam moves the articulated system 101 along the inclined plane 107, which produces a displacement of the plate 1.13 perpendicular to that of the rod 97 and, via the servo motor 31, a corresponding displacement of the table 33. There is an intermediate position of the rod 97, in which none of the rollers 98, 99 is in engagement with its. cam: the spring 120, executed with initial tension, then extends between the two collars 1.04 and 105.
If the box 100 is then pushed to the right, the spring 120 will bear on the left bottom of the box I_00 and on the collar 105 and will apply the roller 98 against its cam 18. At the same time, the articulated system 101 will cooperate with the top of the inclined plane 108, its roller 102 resting on this plane.
We start by moving the. table 16 so as to bring the tool 40 opposite the grinding wheel 21, then the servomotor 31 is placed under the action of the cam 18 and the pulley 2 is engaged. The shaft 8 and the workpiece 20 start to rotate, at the same time as the table 16 slides by an amount determined by the ratio of the gears 11 and 12. The advance of the grinding wheel 21 is achieved by the displacement (fable 33 in the wings 33a under the influence of the servomotor 31 controlled by the cam 18. This gives the grinding wheel 21 its exact profile, after which the cam 18 and the pulley 2 are disengaged and the table 16 is moved. that the workpiece 20 comes opposite the grinding wheel 21; then, the servomotor 31 is placed under the action of the cam 19 and the pulley 2 is re-engaged.
The grinding wheel 21, exactly profiled, then gives the desired profile to the workpiece 20, the periodic movement imparted to the grinding wheel carriage 33 by the servomotor 31 producing the relief of the thread, if the latter is a tool such as a tap or a cutter. For threads without relief, the action of the servomotor 31 is stopped and the carriage 33 remains stationary during the grinding pass; this is achieved by bringing the spring box 100 to halfway, so that neither of the two rollers touches the corresponding cam.
One can easily see the advantages of the machine: To produce a Whitworth thread profile, for example, eleven threads per inch, we will mount on the machine the standard Whitworth system cam, a single cam including all the homologous profiles of the Whitworth pitch thread can be derived, and the inclined plane working in conjunction with this cam will be adjusted so as to vary the distance between the axis of the grinding wheel and that of the threaded part on each revolution of the part. a grain size corresponding to the thread depth of a Whitworth pitch of eleven threads per inch.
As the machine is provided with the lead screw 13 joined to the spindle which drives the part, by means of a gear train of variable composition which characterizes the pitch to be reproduced on the part, the simultaneous effect of the axial displacement of the part under the action of this gear train and of the pendicular movement of the grinding wheel under the action of the cam and the variable reduction gear will produce the desired profile which can be reproduced first on the grinding wheel by the means of the cutting tool secured to the workpiece table and then on the workpiece with the profiled grinding wheel.
If it is a question of reproducing a system S. I. thread by two millimeters, the process will be exactly the same; the single cam of the S. I system will be mounted on the machine and the variable reduction gear will be adjusted to produce the thread depth of the pitch S. I. two millimeters, ete.
The second cam acts on the perpendicular section of the piece to be threaded, it is used to produce the relief threads for taps or cutters. The number of flutes of the tap is given by the number of ramps of the second cam and the amplitude of the down-adjustment is given by the setting of the variable demulti plier acting in conjunction with the second cam.
The number of cams to be used to give the predetermined shape to the threaded part is thus limited to a minimum, because all the threads of different pitch of the same threading system are obtained, as regards their profile in the cut. axial, by a single typical cam and all the calibration depths corresponding to a determined number of flutes of a tap are obtained from a single typical cam having the same number of ramps. Finally, the fact that there is for each cam a reduction device facilitates the passage from one cam to another and avoids any maladjustment during operation.
In the variant of fig. 3, the rod 97 is connected by a link 118 to a frame 115 which can slide in parts 116 and 117 of the frame and which supports the articulated parallelogram 101.
