Description

Convertible automobile body. The present invention, relating to a convertible automobile body, in particular a body of the type known under the name of "convertible", aims to provide the passengers, and more particularly the driver, a maximum field of visibility towards the vehicle. front, by simple and relatively inexpensive means, by using a windshield glass without a frame or uprights.

According to the invention, the bodywork comprises a fixed windshield glass, preferably of hyper-tempered glass of the so-called "safety" type, without a frame or uprights, fixed by its base in the belt of the body, a hood fitted a front cross member having, over its entire length, a groove allowing said cross member to cover the upper edge of said glass over its entire length and means mounted on the glass itself, and allowing, by their cooperation with additional means provided on the convertible top, the direct subjection of said convertible top to the fixed windshield glass.

An embodiment of the object of the invention is shown, by way of example, in the accompanying drawing, in which: FIG. 1 is an elevational view, in partial section, of a windshield glass, of a convertible fitted out in accordance with the invention; Fig. 2 is a fragmentary perspective view of the upper part on a larger scale; and Fig. 3 shows a variant of the attachment of the windscreen glass to the belt.

In these figures, 1 is the windshield glass, preferably of "safety" glass, devoid of any frame, both on its upper edge and on its side edges, all uprights or pillars being removed, the glass of doors coming through their front edge, against the edges of the windshield glass.

The convertible top 2 is attached directly, at the front, to the windshield glass 1. For this purpose, the cross member 3 ending the convertible top is fitted; on its underside, a groove 4 made over its entire length and covered with a rubber lining 5.

On the mirror 1 are directly fixed the fastening elements of the hood each consisting of a hook 6 whose threaded rod 7 passes through a hole made in the mirror, and receiving a nut 8, rubber washers 9 being interposed between the ice and hook, as well as between ice and nut. On the cross member 3 are mounted the complementary fastening elements 10 of known type.

The lens 1 is fixed to the lens 11 by means of bolts 12 each passing through, with the interposition of a rubber sleeve 13, a hole made in the lens and screwed into a fitting 14 secured to the belt 11 ; 15 denotes a frieze, 16 foam rubber plates and 17 profiled rubber pieces.

According to fig. 1, the bottom of the mirror 1 is free and is located at a certain distance from a gutter 18, while in FIG. 3, it is caught, with the interposition of a rubber fur 19, in a V shaped piece 20 attached to the belt 11.

It is understood that numerous variants, as well as improvements in details, could be imagined without departing from the scope of the invention.
