Luminous advertising device. The object of the present invention is a luminous advertising apparatus. It is charac terized in that it comprises a housing on which is mounted a reflective surface carrying the advertisement to be exhibited and from the center of which emerges an axis carrying a hub equipped with a series of light electric tubes; an actuating mechanism driven by an electric motor being intended to rotate the axis which supports the hub equipped with said tubes as well as to actuate at least one switch which automatically coordinates the ignition of these tubes so as to produce flicker and color change effects of the emitted light.
The apparatus described below, which attractively ensures the presentation of an advertisement placed under the effects of scintillating light, continual changes in color and its incidence or reflection on said advertisement, comprises in substance the combination of a mirror forming the background and on which the advertisement is represented, with a series of colored electric lights, arranged on a hub mounted on an axis passing through the center of the mirror, so that, by the rotation of this axis, the lights spin like a wheel in front of the mirror and produce the aforementioned effects by direct vision combined with the reflection on the face of the mirror.
These colored lights can vary in their genre and coloration and are automatically set to alternate with other lights of different genre or color, while rotating in front of the advertisement, to achieve changing effects of brightness and coloration.
In its details, the actuating mechanism comprises an electric motor which rotates, on the one hand, the axis carrying the hub on which the light tubes are fixed and, on the other hand, by means of 'a suitable transmission, a switch for automatically coordinating the play of coloring of the light tubes in order to obtain the effects mentioned. The mechanism includes, moreover, in the event that the supply current from the mains is continuous, a periodic switch with. a transformer to supply the native alternating current at the voltage necessary for the operation of the light tubes.
The accompanying drawing, given by way of example. represents an embodiment of the apparatus forming the subject of the invention.
Fig. 1 is a front elevation. Fig. 2 is a side elevation thereof, the portion carrying the actual advertisement being shown in section.
Fig. 3 is a plan view of the complete apparatus with the upper part of the housing in section.
Fig. 4 is a side view of the actuation mechanism with the housing in section. Figs. 5 and 6 show, ii, a larger scale, details, one in longitudinal section and the other from the front, of the hub carrying the light tubes.
Fig. 7 is a cross section, and the fi-. 8 a longitudinal section of the periodic current interruption device.
In the embodiment shown. the apparatus comprises a mirror 10 or reflecting surface, framed by a flared edge I1 also having its. polished interior surface capable of reflecting light. These members are fixed to the front of a housing 12, enclosing the mechanism which will be described below. The whole constitutes an easily transportable whole, allowing to change place, if desired. However, the complete apparatus can also be built to remain permanently.
The dimensions of the mirror 10 and of its frame 11 can be of any size appropriate to the. size of the advertisement applied to it; moreover, its outline could be different from that shown in the drawing, which is circular in shape.
The advertisement. or the text to be exposed, is placed on the. mirror surface 10 in the manner la. more advantageous and corresponding best to the proposed goal.
A pin 13 emerges from the housing 12 passing through the center of the mirror 10 and carries, at its end, a hub 14. of insulating material, which comprises a certain number of radial cells 16, in which the ends of a certain number. of minous tubes 15 curved in U. As seen in fig. 1 and 6, these tubes are four in number, forming a kind of cross. They are retained in the cells 16 by part of the hub 14, forming a cover. screw sée on the body of said hub, mounted on the axis 13, of tubular shape.
The electrical connections of the ends of the tubes can thus pass conveniently inside the shaft 13 to end in contact rings which will be described below.
The light tubes 15, of a type. which shell, are, intended to produce colored light when passed through by electric current. They can be of different coloring and each tube could be constructed to emit itself, along the length, the light of different colors. When the axis 13 is rotated and the tubes 15 rotate in the manner of the tubes. spokes of a wheel in front of the mirror 10 carrying the advertisement, there are effects of changing colors, such as to draw the attention of the passer-by to the advertisement applied to the mirror.
Another effect could also be given to this advertisement, for example by arranging the supply of the tubes so that they light up intermittently during their rotation in a desired order.
The actuating mechanism of the apparatus shown comprises an electric motor 17, connected to the supply circuit by means of a socket 18 mounted on the side face of the housing 12. Its shaft 1 :? is, connected to the axis 13 by gears 20, in order to rotate this shaft at the desired speed regime. In turn, the axis 13 actuates another shaft 22, mounted parallel to it and driven by a chain transmission 21.
The shaft 22 carries at its end an arm 23 equipped with a contact member 24, which rubs during rotation on a series of four contact pads 25, spaced on a support 26 in the form of an insulating disc mounted in the housing coaxially. to tree 22.
On the axis 13 are mounted four rings 27, connected through the hollow end of said axis each with one of the ends of one of the four light tubes 15. A fifth ring 28, also mounted on said axis, is connected with the other of the ends of each of the light tubes. Each of the pads 25 is connected by contact brushes 29 to one of the rings 27 and the arm 2: 3 is connected by the brush 30 to one of the poles of an electrical supply line, in the species ià one of the terminals of the secondary of a transformer 31 housed in a compartment arranged at the bottom of the case.
The ring 28 is connected by means of the brush 32 to the other terminal of the secondary of the transformer. Thus, when the transformer is supplied with current, its secondary supplies current successively to each of the rotating light tubes, then to the rotation of the shaft 22.
A sequence determined in the order of illumination of the light tubes can be provided by arranging the connections between the pads 25 and the rings 27 accordingly. The number of light tubes, the periods, the time and the time can also be varied. order of illumination, by appropriate variations in the number and arrangement of the different parts of the actuating and switching mechanism.
The transformer is used to supply the voltage necessary for the light tubes filled with gas, but it could be dispensed with if the available voltage corresponded perfectly to the speed of the lamps used.
The apparatus shown is designed to supply the light tubes with native alternating current, when the available current is direct, by the use in the supply circuit of a device which periodically and rapidly interrupts the primary current going to the transformer.
One form of this device is shown in Figs. 3, 4, 7 and 8 of the drawing. It comprises a drum 35, made of insulating material, mounted on the end of the shaft 19 of the motor 17. Its cylindrical surface comprises two series of contact pads 36, diametrically opposed and connected in pairs from inside the motor. drum, as shown in detail in fig. 7 and 8.
On each series of pads rub a broom; contact 37, to which the wires of a direct current socket 38 are connected. Another pair of brushes 39 is placed symmetrically, on the other side of the drum 35 and is in contact with the pads of the drum at points diametrically opposed to the brushes 37. These brushes 39 are connected respectively to the two terminals of the primary of the transformer.
Consequently, when the drum 35 rotates as a result of the rotation of the motor 17, the circuit is periodically closed by the brushes and the contact pads, when they reach the key position, and interrupted by the insulating surfaces of the drum. in the position between the studs.
