Abstract

The lamp has an enclosing shade which is marked with a design or with information round its entire periphery. The shade has a vertical axis of symmetry. The shade is driven in rotation to allow the complete design, for example a landscape, to be seen, or to allow the full sequence of signal information to be shown to an observer at a particular location.The shade is driven by a small electric motor. The electric motor is powered from a photocell, which generates electric current when exposed to light from the lamp bulb. The motor may alternatively be powered from the AC mains supply, through a rectifier if need be. The lamp shade is in the form of a cone, sphere or cylinder, and is made of a translucent material with the design or information painted onto its surface.
