Lightweight portable scaffolding with adjustable height. The present invention relates to a lightweight portable scaffolding with adjustable height.
When, for example, work such as painting, plastering, etc. in buildings at a certain height above the ground, use is made either of ladders or of scaffolding made up of trestles on which planks are placed.
Ladders have the advantage of being light and easily transportable, but they require frequent movements during work and often require the worker to be in an uncomfortable and tiring position.
Scaffolding made up of trestles and planks are heavy and bulky.
The object of the present invention is to remedy the aforementioned drawbacks and has as its object a lightweight portable scaffolding having substantially the same advantages as a ladder from the point of view of transport facilities, without having the drawbacks thereof. The scaffolding according to the invention comprises three parts, the first consisting of a vertical frame is provided with support members arranged at different heights, the second consists of a height-adjustable ladder and the third by a bridge connecting the two others and resting on the support members of the first.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, schematically one embodiment of the invention.
Figs. 1 to 6 show the detail of the different parts of the scaffolding; Fig. 7 is a side view; Fig. 8 is a perspective view. The, part 9. is constituted by a vertical frame formed of two uprights 10 rigidly connected by two crossbars 11, 12. The uprights 10 are fixed support members 13 placed in pairs at different heights. These uprights have, on the other hand, perforations 14 equal in number to that of the members 13.
The second part P consists of an adjustable height ladder formed of two parts 15 and 16, the second neck of which is smooth in the first. At their lower end, the uprights of part 16 carry two hooks 17 intended, during the movement of this part in part 15, to engage the rungs thereof (fig.6). On the other hand, the uprights of part 15 have at their upper end perforations 18 and those of part 16 have perforations 19 which are placed opposite the perforations 18 in each position of part 16 on part 15. The two parts are then fixed in position, for example by means of bolts 25 provided with wing nuts passing through the perforations of the two uprights.
The third part C is constituted by a bridge formed by a support bar 20 intended to come into engagement with the support members 13 of the part 9 and of two longitudinal members 21 joined by light cross members 22 constituting an apron. The end of the latter opposite to the bar 20 is hinged at 23 to part 16 of the ladder and at the same place are hinged on each side of the supports 24 acting as struts and the free end of which is provided with one or verture. This end is intended to be fixed to one of the uprights 10, for example by means of a bolt 26 (fig. 7), provided with a wing nut passing through one of the holes 14. One obtains, from this way, complete rigidity of the scaffolding.
The operation of the object of the invention is as follows.According to the height of the room in which work is to be carried out, the bar 20 of the bridge C is first placed in one of the pairs of supports 14 of part A. and the free end of the supports 24 is fixed at the corresponding height on the uprights 10 so that the bridge is in a horizontal position. The height of part B is then adjusted by sliding the two parts of the ladder 15 and 16 and by placing, if necessary, the hooks 17 on one of the rungs of part 15.
After fixing the parts 15 and 16 by means of the bolts 25, the cross member 11 is connected to one of the rungs of the ladder B by a rope 27, so that the scaffolding is in reality constituted by a frame whose sides are, on the one hand, the parts A., B and C and, on the other hand, the rope 27, this frame comprising on each side a diagonal 24 ensuring its rigidity.
As can be seen, this scaffolding, while having substantially the same advantages as a ladder from the point of view of handling, makes it possible to work on an easily accessible platform located at a chosen height, which allows the 'worker to work a large area under favorable conditions and without having to change the position of the scaffolding.
On the other hand, as can be seen, the fact that part -4 always occupies a vertical position makes it possible to arrive in the immediate vicinity of a wall, which is not the case with a scale which is necessarily tou leaning days.
For transport, parts B and C can be folded over part A by pivoting around bolts 26 as shown in broken lines in fig. 7.
It is clear that the construction details can vary without departing from the scope of the invention.
Thus the hooks 13 of the part could be replaced by other fixing devices or could also consist, for example, of notches made in the uprights 10.
The same is true for part B. The two sliding parts of the ladder could be arranged in a different way. The rungs could in particular be arranged between the uprights, instead of being fixed on one of their faces.
The means of fixing the different parts of the scaffolding could be other than bolts such as 25 and 26.
The shape of the different parts 9., B, C could also differ from that shown in the drawing. One could in particular give the part t1 a shape such that during folding, the other parts fit completely into the frame it constitutes.
