Process for the production of a pebble dye. It has been found that a vat dye can be produced by the action of ththalic anhydride on fluoranthene in the presence of condensing agents if at least 21/2 mol of phthalic anhydride are used per mole of fluoranthene.
The dye is a brown crystalline powder that dissolves in concentrated sulfuric acid with a cherry-red color, and trees from a blue vat in yellow. colors very real tones.
As a condensing agent come for example aluminum halides such. B. aluminum chloride or ferric chloride are considered; these condensing agents can be used in the host of the. Melting point lowering additives, such as. B. alkali halides (sodium and / or potassium chloride) or of solution or. Distribution means, such as B. benzene, trichlorobenzene, chloronaphthalene or nitrobenzene can be used.
<I> Example </I> 210.2 parts of fluoranthene, 90 parts of phthalic anhydride and 180 parts of aluminum chloride are intimately mixed for 6 hours at a temperature of 8.5 to 90 minutes. Bake bake. To terminate the reaction, the temperature is gradually increased by maintaining it at 110 to 120 'for 6 hours and at 12.8 to 13.0' for 8 hours.
After cooling, the crushed reaction cake is added to dilute hydrochloric acid to remove the aluminum chloride, boiled, filtered and the residue extracted first with water and then with dilute soda solution. After recrystallization from trichlorobenzene, the dye is obtained as a brown crystalline powder.
<I> Example 2 </I> 315 parts of aluminum chloride, 66 parts of potassium chloride and 45 parts of sodium chloride are melted at 112 to 117 and then a mixture of 2.0.2 parts of fluoranthene and 60 parts of phthalic anhydride is added in portions over half an hour. To end the reaction, the mixture is stirred at 130 to 135 hours for 61/1 hours. After cooling, the reaction cake is chopped up, poured into dilute hydrochloric acid, boiled up, filtered off and the residue is boiled up with water.
For cleaning, the raw dye is extracted with a dilute soda solution and: then with alcohol. The dye forms a dark brown powder that is purified by recrystallization from trichlorobenzene.
