Description
Process for the production of krypton and xenon during air separation by deep freezing. According to the patent claim of the main patent, krypton and xenon are obtained during air separation by deep cooling in such a way that the gaseous krypton and xenon-regular oxygen obtained during the separation of air by means of deep-freezing is subjected to countercurrent washing with practically krypton- and xenon-free oxygen subject to liquid oxygen,
which is obtained by rectifying the starting material under condensation of the krypton and xenon-containing oxygen in the upper part of the washing device.
It has now been found that difficulties arise during rectification in the krypton-oxygen system and only when the enrichment is far, i.e. when krypton is kept at more than about 20% o, while the krypton is first washed out of the air According to the claim of the main patent, only a crypton content of a few percent is generally achieved.
These difficulties can now be remedied according to the present invention in that the rectification of the oxygen-crypton or xenon mixture is carried out under a pressure higher than atmospheric pressure, expediently under a pressure of more than 1.7 ata. The possibility of overcoming the difficulties in this way was not to be expected, as in general my rectifications or. Countercurrent washes with increasing pressure due to the convergence of the equilibrium curves can be carried out more and more difficult.
The reason for the favorable effect of the pressure increase in this case is likely to be found in the fact that at atmospheric pressure krypton and xenon and oxygen can no longer be mixed with one another indefinitely in the liquid state. Xenou concentrations the krypton respectively. Xenon is partly precipitated in solid form.
At higher pressures there form against Krypton respectively. Xenon and oxygen a complete series of mixtures, which also applies to krypton and / or. xenon-rich mixtures remain liquid. .
