Powder feed device. The present invention relates to a device for feeding slow powdered material.
This device, like those already known and proposed, is of the type comprising a container for the pulverulent material, a rotating disc inside this container and on which the material rests and an adjustable scraper blade projecting into the container, near of the disc, to remove a quantity determined by the advance of material and to direct it into an outlet opening in the side of the container.
In these devices known and proposed hitherto, the pulverulent material receives a rotational movement only of the disc, at its lower part and consequently almost all of the mass of material in the container remains stationary, only the layer. lower material rotating with the disc. The thickness of this rotating layer can vary within wide limits between less than about a centimeter and 5 cm and more; this results in a variation in the quantity of material presented to the scraper blade in a given time.
For this reason, the devices known and proposed until now have been shown to be incapable of supplying the pulverulent material in a truly regular manner and the aim of the present invention is to remedy this drawback.
According to the invention, the rotating disc carries at least one member extending in the container and rotating with the disc to communicate a rotational movement to the material in the container and the outlet of the container is near the rotating disc, the scraper blade protruding from this orifice and having a flange extending laterally.
Said member may be a pin mounted in the center of the disc and carrying radial arms to which bars are fixed, the container preferably being cylindrical.
The accompanying drawing represents, by way of example, the preferred embodiment of the subject of the invention.
Fig. 1 is a sectional elevation through the center of the cylindrical container and on a plane which passes through the outlet opening in the wall of the container a receiving hopper for the finely divided material supplied from the container and a device for transporting of this material also being shown in section. In this view, the mechanism enclosed in the container and intended to support and rotate the load of the container, is shown in elevation, part of the rotating disc being broken off to show the packing thereof.
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of a transport device for the pulverized material received from the hopper, the latter also being shown in section, and FIG. 3 is a horizontal cross section taken along line 3-3 of FIG. 1, the hopper and the blade adjustment mechanism being shown in plan, the hopper cover partially broken.
A cylindrical, vertical container A has at its lower end a rotating disc B which is provided with an annular seal B1. The upper surface of the disc B is roughened to better engage the load of finely divided material lying thereon. above it, the curves being shown in fig. 3 as formed by radial grooves B2 on the face of the disc.
The disc is supported and rotated by wedging on a shaft C driven at a regular speed by a motor C1, preferably by means of a helical screw gear, as indicated in C2. A shaft D extends upwards from the upper face of the disk B, coaxially with this disk; this shaft has radial arms fixed to it as indicated at Dl and D2, the outer ends of these arms being connected by bars D3 parallel to the shaft D. An outlet orifice Al is formed in the wall of the container slightly above top of disc B.
This orifice is represented in a rectangular shape and a plate E is fixed on one of its vertical sides, so as to be able to pivot. This plate extends through the opening A.l and has a sharp edge El which is intended to protrude into the cylinder.
As shown, the articulated attachment of plate E is indicated at E2, a shaft E3 extends upward from the articulated edge of the plate, and a lever arm E4 is attached to the upper end of this shaft and has a forked end, as indicated at El. An endless screw F4 is journaled in the fork E ',
this screw can be rotated by a knob FI and locked in place by a tightening nut F2. The endless screw F engages with a fixed sector F3. As shown, the plate E is provided with a flange E extending laterally and outwardly from its upper edge and located very near the top of the outlet opening A1. As shown, this flange is in the form of a sector and is intended to prevent the escape of any amount of the finely divided material held in the cylindrical container in the outlet above the outlet. upper edge of plate B.
A hopper G is placed to receive finely divided material discharged from the opening .9 .1 and this hopper opens at its bottom into the chamber H1 of a transport device indicated in a general manner in H.
A nozzle H2 for pressurized air opens in the end of the chamber H1 and is connected to a source of compressed air (not repīéseutée) by a pipe H3. Chamber H1 is shown connected to a conduit or pipe, a part of which is indicated at I, by which the finely divided material carried by the carrier gas injected into chamber H1, can be transported to a discharge point. J indicates a lid for the container and Jl a lid for the hopper.
These lids may be provided to remove excess material from the container and the hopper, but do not need to be airtight and indeed, for the hopper, the lid should be of such a character that it allows a very free passage of air.
In operation, the vertical cylindrical container A is loaded with finely divided material, the plate .E is adjusted in place by means of the worm I 'so that its sharp edge E1 protrudes into the cylindrical container by an amount. value determined by the desired feed speed and the disk B as well as the bars connected to each other D, D1, D2 and D3 are set in rotation by means of the motor 01, so that the cylindrical mass of finely divided material contained in the container is forced to rotate in the latter.
As the cutting edge E 'of the plate E protrudes beyond the inner wall of the cylinder, it cuts from the rotating mass of material a layer of material the quantity of which can be exactly determined and directs the material thus detached. of the rotating mass, in the outlet opening A1 and in the hopper G from which, as shown, this material is discharged into the chamber H1 and carried by the jet of air or other gas entering the chamber H 'by the H2 nozzle; the transport gas carrying the particles of finely divided material is discharged from the chamber H1 into the conduit I and transported to the point of use.
The feed device described above is specially intended for supplying a finely divided material for coating a mold, to a jet or a nozzle, not shown, by which the particles of finely divided material are projected into contact with the internal surface of a rotating mold, but obviously the present invention can very well be used in all cases where a regular and adjustable supply of finely divided material is to be obtained.
It is obvious that although the embodiment shown in the drawing and described above is one of those preferred, this construction can be modified without departing from the essential characteristics of the invention.
