Description

Process for the production of a violet sulfur dye. It has been found that valuable purple sulfur dyes are obtained if indophenols (or the corresponding leucoindophenols) of the type are used
EMI0001.0007
where X = hydrogen or halogen Ac = an acyl radical of the aliphatic or aromatic series and R.

   - mean hydrogen or an alkyl group, which, for example, by joint oxidation of 1-acylamino-2-. 4-diaminobenzene respectively. 1- A cylamino-2-amino-4-dialkylaminobenzenes with p-aminophenol or its halogen substitution products can be obtained, treated with sulfurizing agents according to the usual methods for sulfur dyes.

The present patent now relates to a process for the production of a violet sulfur dye, characterized in that the indophenol of the formula:
EMI0001.0028
treated with sulphurous agents. The new sulfur dye dyes the vegetable fibers from baths containing sodium sulphide in violet shades of good washing, acid, boiling and lightfastness.

Example: 50 parts of the indophenol, obtained, for example, by joint oxidation (using air) of 1 mol. 2,4-diamino-1-acetanilide and 1 mol. P-aminophenol in aqueous solution , with stirring in. An approximately 95 'warm polysulfide solution of 150 parts of crystalline. Sodium sulfur and 55 parts of sulfur entered, with dissolution and reduction taking place.

Then it is evaporated to the boiling point 108 to 109 and boiled under reflux for about 20 hours. The work-up can be carried out in one of the usual ways, for example by blowing out the diluted melt with air, by salting out or by precipitation with acid.

The deposited dye is advantageously subjected to an oxidative aftertreatment, for example by blowing air into the aqueous slurry in the presence of alkali metal hydroxide.
