Process for the production of a new vat dye. The surprising observation was made that particularly valuable vat dyes are obtained if anthrachirion derivatives having at least one a-amino group are condensed with diphenylmonocarboxylic acid halides or anhydrides or their substitution products.
Such substitution products are, for example, the halogen-alkogy -, - alkyl, aryl and acylamino derivatives.
The new condensation products are distinguished by their extraordinary color strength and cotton affinity compared to the analogously known acyl derivatives obtainable by means of aryl monocarboxylic acids.
The simplest representative of the new group of dyes, the (4'-phenylbenzoyl) -a- a.minoanthraquinone, provides strong and extremely greenish yellow tones on cotton and wool, which considerably increase the clarity of the nuance and color strength of the benzoyl and naphthoyl products surpass. The new dyes have excellent fastness properties.
They are prepared in the usual manner by condensation of the diphenylcarboxylic acid halides or anhydrides and their substitution products with the α-aminoanthraquinones in a suitable solvent in the presence or absence of acid-binding agents.
The present patent relates to a process for the production of a new vat dye, characterized in that α-aminoanthraquinone is condensed with a compound which supplies the diphenyl-4-carboxylic acid radical in a higher-boiling solvent.
The dye thus obtained forms yellow crystals with a melting point of 254. It dyes cotton and wool from a bluish red vat in strong, very clear greenish yellow tones with excellent fastness properties. Example 1: 22 kg of α-aminoanthraquinone are dissolved in about 500 kg of boiling o-dichlorobenzene and 22 kg of diphenyl-4-carboxylic acid chloride are added within a short time. After about half an hour of reaction time, when the evolution of hydrochloric acid has ended, the yellow-brown solution is allowed to cool.
The dyestuff that has crystallized out is filtered off with suction and washed with alcohol.
Example 2: If, in Example 1, diphenyl-4-carboxylic acid chloride is replaced by the anhydride of diphenyl-4-carboxylic acid, the same dye is obtained.
