Process for the preparation of a new pimple dye. It has been found that a new, valuable vat dye of good fastness properties is obtained if one of the 1 mole. 5.5'-Diaminodiphtaloylearbazol of the formula
EMI0001.0006
and 2 mol. Bä1-halobenzanthrone obtained Liche condensation product in pyridine heated with aluminum chloride.
The starting body can be obtained in the following way: 9.4 parts of 5'-diamino diphtaloylcarbazole are mixed with 12 parts of Bzl halobenzanthrone, 10 parts of dehydrated sodium acetate, 200 parts of nitrobenzene, 1 part of copper oxide and 0.2 part of copper acetic acid heated to boiling under reflux until the reaction has practically ended, which is the case after about 20 hours. It is allowed to cool to about 50 ° C., filtered off with suction, washed with benzene, alcohol and water and dried.
To get rid of excess halogen benzanthrone, the dark-colored crude product can be treated with indifferent organic solvents in which the new compound is sparingly soluble even in the heat. It dissolves in concentrated sulfuric acid with a dark brownish olive color. When diluted sulfuric acid is added, the solution turns green and when poured into water, the new compound precipitates in red-brown flakes. It dyes cotton from the warm hydrosulphite vat in muted red-brown tones.
Example: 5 parts of the condensation product described are introduced into a mixture of 50 parts of pyridine and 10 parts of aluminum chloride at 100 ° C. and the mixture is stirred for about 2 hours at about 120 ° C. It is then poured into water and separates the color formed by vatting of non-viable components. The new dye dissolves in concentrated sulfuric acid with a yellow-brown color and dyes cotton from the warm, red-brown colored hydrosulfite vat in strong red-brown tones.
