Process for the preparation of a new pimple dye. It has been found that a new, valuable vat dye of good fastness properties is obtained if one of the 1 mol. 5 .5'-1> iaminodiphtaloylcarbazole of the formula
EMI0001.0007
and 2 mol. Bzl-Halogenbenzanthrorr obtainable condensation product fused with alcoholic potash.
The starting body can be obtained in the following ways: 9.4 parts 5. 5'-Dieimir) o-diphtaloylearbazole are refluxed with 12 parts of Bzl-Halogenbenzantlrron, 10 parts of dehydrated sodium acetate, 200 parts of Nrtroberrzol, 1 part of copper oxide and 0.2 parts of acetic acid copper until the reaction has practically ended, what after about 20 hours.
It is allowed to cool to about 50 ° C., filtered off with suction, washed with benzene, alcohol and water and dried. To get rid of excess halobenzanthrone, the dark colored crude product can be treated with inert organic solvents in which the new compound is sparingly soluble, even when heated. It dissolves in concentrated sulfuric acid with a brownish olive color. When diluted sulfuric acid is added, the solution turns green and when poured into water, the new compound precipitates in red-brown flakes.
It dyes cotton from the warm hydrosulfite vat in muted red-brown tones.
Example: 7.5 parts of the condensation product described are poured into an alcoholic potash melt consisting of 37.5 parts of potash. hydrate and 20 parts of ethyl alcohol, entered at a temperature of about 170 C. The mixture is stirred at 175-180 ° C. until the formation of the dye has practically ended. Here you dilute with water and work up the dye in the usual way.
The raw dye is separated by vat of non-vettable components and dyes cotton from the warm yellow-brown hydrosulfite vat in strong, red-brown shades. It dissolves in concentrated sulfuric acid with an olive green color. When diluted sulfuric acid is added, no green color occurs.
