Tournevis.
Screwdriver. The object of the present invention is a screwdriver. This is characterized by a battery housed in the handle, by an electric bulb placed near the free end of the blade and by a switch which, when closed, connects the bulb to the battery and allows '' illuminate the place where the tip of the blade works.
The accompanying drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the object of the invention.
Fig. 1 is an axial vertical section thereof and FIG. 2, a section through II-II of fig. 1; fig. 3 is an elevational view of the end of the handle, while FIG. 4 illustrates a use of said embodiment.
The screwdriver shown comprises a handle 1 in which is fixed a hollow metal rod 2 covered, until close to its free end, by an insulating sleeve. This screwdriver comprises several blades 4, only one of which is shown in the drawing and which are intended to be fixed, temporarily, to the end of the rod 2; for this purpose, the latter has two internal and rectilinear grooves 5, diametrically opposed and parallel to the axis, as well as an external circular groove G which passes through the grooves 5 and which contains a split elastic ring 7.
The two lateral edges 8 of each blade 4 penetrate into the rectilinear grooves 7 and two notches 9 which these lateral edges present, then engage with the ring 7, which ensures the blade 4 a good fixation while allowing the very easy to separate from the rod 2.
The handle 1 is hollow and contains in its interior a dry cell 10, of cylindrical shape; one of its poles It is. connected to a contact 12 mounted in an insulating plate 13 and to which is soldered an insulated wire 14 which ends at one of the contacts of an electric bulb 15; the latter is placed in the stem \ ?. near the free end of the latter and in front of a window 16 made in the rod and in the sleeve 3. The conductive wire 17 which starts from the other contact of the bulb 15. is soldered to a part conductor 18 which is in contact, on the one hand, with the rod 2, and, on the other hand, with the conductive disc 19 resting on an insulating washer 20, placed on the underside of the battery.
The second pole 21 of the latter is in contact with a spring 22 which presses against a metal rod 23, terminated by a plate 24, arranged along the axis of the handle, which can be screwed and unscrewed in the latter, and terminated by a button of. insulating operation 25.
If, thanks to this button 25, the rod 22 3 is screwed into the handle against the spring 22, the plate 24 and the disc 19 are brought into contact. At this time, the conductive wire 17 is put in contact with the lower pole of the battery, while the wire 14 is connected to the upper pole of the latter; bulb 5 therefore lights up and illuminates window 16.
Around the rod 23 is wound a conductor 26 terminating in two contact pins 27, one of which is intended to engage in a hole 28 made through the insulating button 25 and in the metal rod 23.
Suppose we want to use the screwdriver to check whether a fuse A is functioning normally or not; one of the fuse contacts will be brought into contact with the blade 4. that is to say by the rod 2, the conductive part 18, the wire 17 and the bulb 15 with the upper pole of the battery. The other contact of the fuse is connected by the conductor 26 and its two pins 27, the conductive rod 23 and the spring 24, with the lower pole of the same battery; consequently, if the fuse is in good condition, the bulb 15 lights up.
At the end of the handle are housed 29, each of which contains a blade 24 and which are closed by a common celluloid cover 30. This cover can rotate in its housing and has a mistletoe 31 which can be brought opposite of one of the housings 29, to remove the blade it contains therefrom or to put it back there.
