Description

Means for thawing wheat and other frozen iron objects. The thawing effect of salts, in particular the cheap sodium chloride (cattle salt, rock salt, has been known since ancient times and is widely used in practice. However, this means, which is effective in itself, exists, especially when used to thaw icy iron objects, such as the Take railroad switches, for example, and the concern that the solution of this salt, like the solution of many other chlorides, corrodes the iron heavily, which means that it significantly promotes the natural rusting process.

To a greater extent, these concerns are directed against the highly soluble chlorides of less strongly basic metals than the alkali metals, for example chlorine magnesium: However, detailed tests have shown that concerns of this kind against the use of anhydrous chlorine magnesium are unjustified if at the same time as Rust inhibitors known per se alkali chromates are used.

Surprisingly, the effect of the latter is not only strong enough with soluble carbonates, such as potash according to patent 480484, but even with the chlorides that occur in high concentrations of the solution to prevent rusting even with the addition of only about 1 / o alkali chromate to prevent. The applicable anhydrous; Magnesium chlorine crystallized from the melt has a number of properties that make it far superior to sodium chlorine as a de-icing agent.

The crystallized salt can be brought into the form of fine flakes, expediently up to about 2 minutes long, by comminution. The blät trige .Bau favors both the throwing ability of the powder, as well as in particular the contact with the dissolving effect the snow or ice parts. The resulting high speed of thawing is also promoted by a particularly low melting point of the cryohydrate of chlorine magnesium and by the heat of hydration, which has the high value of 33 cal./Mol. having.

As a result of this, solid salt crusts which impede the use are never formed during thawing, as is the case with other chlorides, which easily form hydrates.
