Reversible rotary machine. The present invention relates to a reversible rotary machine capable of operating either as a pump or as a motor.
The appended drawing gives, by way of example, an embodiment of the machine: FIGS. 1, 2, 3 and 4 are cross sections, FIG. 5 is a horizontal section corresponding to FIG. 3 and fig. 6 is a partial vertical section of the machine.
The mobile part of the machine comprises an outer circular cylinder 1, a tubular cylinder 2 and two side faces 3 and 4; a hollow shaft 5 provided with a pallet 6 constitutes the fixed part of the machine.
The fixed axis 5 is concentric with the outer cylinder 1 while the tubular cylinder 2 has dimensions and an eccentricity, with respect to the cylinder 1 such that it is externally in contact with the inner lateral surface of the cylinder 1 and internally in contact with the outer side surface of the fixed axis 5: the tubular cylinder 2 is also provided, in the axial direction, with an opening allowing the passage of the pallet 6. The outer cylinder 1 is integral with the side faces 3 and 4 and each of the latter is provided with a central opening for the passage of the fixed axis 5 as well as a circular groove 7 serving as a guide for the tubular cylinder 2.
The fixed axis 5 is provided with a partition 8 which divides its capacity into two parts 9 and 10, each of these being in communication one with the inlet 11 and the other with the outlet 12 of the fluid. The pallet 6 is formed by the extension of the partition 8 as well as by the faces 13, 14 and 15 on which the internal surface of the movable cylinder slides with gentle friction; the faces 13 and 15, the width of which is slightly greater than that of the opening made in the tubular cylinder 2, also have the function of guiding said cylinder in the radial direction. Lights 16 and 17 formed in the hollow axis and located on either side of the partition 8 put the fluid inlet and outlet pipes in communication with the interior of the machine.
The operating principle of the machine is as follows: the hollow axis b as well as the pallet 6 being fixed, if a rotational movement is imparted to the mobile part of the machine, the eccentric tubular cylinder 2 will take part in the rotational movement since it is driven by the grooves made in the side faces 3 and 4; but as the tubular cylinder 2 is also guided by the opening through which the fixed pallet 6 passes, the tubular cylinder 2 will at the same time be subjected to move around its own axis and this results in an oscillatory movement of the cylinder 2 repeating itself at each revolution of the moving part.
Figs. 1, 2, 3 and 4 indicate four different positions of the moving part of the machine, these positions being offset, with respect to each other, by 90. In the position indicated in fig. 1, the total interior volume is divided into three capacities 18, 19 and 20; if the movable part of the machine is moved in the direction of the arrow, the capacities 19 and 20 will decrease while the capacity 18 will be increased; the way in which these capacities vary emerges from an examination of figs. 1, 2, 3, and 4.
The operation of the machine as a pump is as follows: the capacity 18 being in communication, via the opening 16 and the capacity 9, with the suction line 11, the rotation, in the direction of the arrow , of the moving part will result in a suction of the fluid due to the increase in capacity 18; at the same time, the capacities 19 and 20 decreasing, the fluid contained in these capacities will be discharged into the pipe 12 after having passed through the opening 17 and the capacity 10.
To operate the machine as a motor, the fluid under pressure will be admitted to capacity 21, fig. 3, the introduction of the fluid taking place through the tubular 11, which will be provided with a distributor member, of known tvne, adjusting the duration - of the admission of the fluid; the dispensing member once closed, the relaxation of the fluid will impart a rotational movement to. the moving part of the machine. If the fluid used is not elastic, the admission will be uninterrupted.
The reversibility of the machine is obvious and has no other result than reversing the direction of fluid flow through the machine.
The external part of the machine being mobile, we can execute the latter as a pulley, toothed wheel, drum, etc; in order to obtain a minimum bulk, it is possible, in certain cases, to provide the mobile part of the machine inside the rotor of another machine; for example, the moving part of the machine will be constituted by the rotor of an electric motor, if the machine operates as a pump and by the rotor of an electric generator if the machine operates as a motor.
The machine being of the so-called volumetric type, it may, by operating as a motor, be used to measure the flow rate of a non-elastic fluid flowing in a closed duct; for this purpose, the mobile part of the machine will activate a mechanism of known type intended to total the number of revolutions of the machine; the quantity of fluid having passed through the machine will be proportional to the number of revolutions recorded by the totalizing device.
