Mécanisme disjoncteur automatique pour fer à repasser électrique. La présente invention sP rapporte à un mécanisme disjoncteur automatique pour fer à repasser électrique, caractérisé par une bande de métal très dilatable fixée par une extrémité à une bande de métal moins dila- table qui supporte un verrou de déclenche ment d'un disjoncteur, lequel comporte une pièce en matière isolante mobile portant une ,pièce de contact d'arrivée du courant;
Automatic circuit breaker mechanism for electric iron. The present invention relates to an automatic circuit breaker mechanism for an electric iron, characterized by a highly expandable metal strip attached at one end to a less expandable metal strip which supports a trip latch of a circuit breaker, which comprises a piece of movable insulating material carrying a current inlet contact piece;
the whole is arranged so that said expandable strip, rapidly elongating under the action of heat, and then rotating the latch to release the circuit breaker, thus causes the circuit breaker to trip to the desired temperature, and consequently the interruption of the current clans the heating body of the iron.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the object of the invention.
Fig 1 is a plan view of the base of the iron with the mechanism in contact position; Fig. 2 is a plan view after tripping of the circuit breaker; Fig. 3 is a section taken along line II-II of FIG. 1, the heating body and the top of the iron being supposed to be replaced.
In these figures, 1 shows the base of the iron in which voids are formed to house the little-expandable metal plate, connected by screw 4 to the expandable strip 3 and by screw 6 to the trigger lock 5 subjected to the action of the spring 7. A piece of insulating material 8 can smooth lengthwise; it is provided with a metal gasket 9 serving as a contact, as well as a stop spout 10, and it is subjected to the action of the return spring 11.
The electrical connections are as follows: The current is supplied. via terminal 12; it passes through contact 13, gasket 9 and contact 14 from where it enters the heating body at 15 to exit to wire 16 connected to terminal 17 of the iron. The mechanism works as follows: All the parts being in position as shown in fig. 1, if the current is passed through the heating body, the temperature of the latter will rise progressively as well as that of all the components, in particular that of the expandable strip 3, the free end of which is in contact with the adjustment screw 18 of the lock 5.
If the temperature reaches a maximum degree planned in advance, of 220, for example, the lengthening of the strip 3 will cause the lock 5 to pivot around the screw 6 until the spout 10 is free. (fig. 2) At this moment, the spring 11 brings the part 8 back, moving the contact 9 away from the contact 14, which causes the breaking of the current.
The temperature of the heating body will drop again, as will that of the band 3 which will be shortened, allowing the latch 5 to take again, under the action of the spring 7, its position near the spout 10. It will then be sufficient to re put the iron in action, push the insulating part 8 forward; the spout 10 will again be retained by the latch 5 and, the cir cuit being closed, the current will pass again.
The expandable strip 3 is provided at its free end with a hard metal stopper 19 in order to avoid the wear that the adjusting screw 18 is bound to produce in the long run. soft material of which the expandable strip is composed.
If it is desired that the current breakdown occurs at a temperature lower than 220, it suffices to tighten the screw 18 further; the lock 5 moves away from the nozzle 10 and the tripping of the circuit breaker 8 will occur sooner. A stop 20 is provided to limit the retraction movement of the circuit breaker. The latter can only be reset when the temperature of the iron has dropped sufficiently to allow the latch 5 to return to <<a position where it retains the stopper 10.
The arrangement of the parts making up the mechanism as well as their number and shape may be different from what is shown in the drawing.
