Device for delaying the action of a safety device from an electric motor, such as a circuit breaker or fuse. The object of the invention is a device for delaying the action of a safety device of an electric motor, such as a circuit breaker or a. fuse.
AC motors, in particular, have the drawback of absorbing a current three to four times greater on start-up than that of their function. - normal operation, it is therefore necessary that during start-up, the action of the safety devices is deferred.
The accompanying drawing represents, by by way of example, schematically, embodiments of the object of the invention.
Fig. 1 indicates the application to an automatic circuit breaker; Fig. 2 shows a second embodiment; Fig. 3 indicates an improvement; Fig. 4 indicates another embodiment .; Figs. 5 and 6 relate to an improvement. A electromagnet A, circuit breaker fig. 1, is placed in series with an AC motor B, .
The device comprises here, a bi-metallic blade 0, formed of two blades integral with one another, having cliacune a different coefficient of expansion . This bi-metal blade is fixed by one end to a fixed base D, while the other end is free to move and carries a contact piece < B> E in relation to another part of, fixed contact F.
The bi # metallic 6 ' blade is near a metallic conductor G having -a certain resistivity, so that it can s 'warm up when it is traversed by the main current.
The fixed contact piece F is connected with one end of the wire of the electro -à by a conductor T, while the support D is connected to the other end of the same electro A. It follows that the latter is short-circuited by the bi-metallic blade -C. < / B> The operation is as follows:
the current arrives through conductor I, passes through conductor G, the support D, and from there it is divided into two parts, one goes through the electro A, the other through the bi-metallic blade C; the resistance of the latter being much lower than that of the electro A, most of the current is diverted from said electro.
After a certain lapse of time necessary for the heating of the bi-metal blade C by the conductor G to produce an expansion movement in the direction of the arrow, sufficient to move the contact piece E away from that of F, the main current then passes entirely to through the electro A.
If one arranges these various elements in a suitable way, one can arrive to bypassing the electro A during 30 and even 60 seconds, thus preventing it from acting for the time required to start the engine.
In the execution faith indicated in fig. 2, the bi-metallic blade is replaced by a blade H slightly curved and held at its two ends by fixed supports K and I, the contact pieces EP are located in the middle between the two supports K and L Under the influence of heat, the center of the blade takes a movement up and down. In addition, the electro -4 is not short-circuited, but its action is canceled by a TI winding acting in the opposite direction to the A. winding.
Fig. 3 indicates a perfection ii ement by which the resistance of the conductor G can be modified and ' by shunting it more less by a slider L which can slide along the conductor G and a - bar M connected to the support b in order to be able to modify the heating of the bi wool -metallic C.
In addition a resistor T2 is interposed between the contact piece F and the output of the wire of the electro A, this resistance is adjustable so to </ B> allow the intensity of the current flowing through the À electro to be adjusted when the contact pieces E and F are in relation, so that for a determined intensity, the À can operate despite the connection of the contact parts F and E ,, this crying case of short-circuit when starting the engine.
The embodiment shown in fig. 4 provides a simplification to avoid the use of the driver G.
The two blades of the bi-metallic blade C are slightly spaced from each other, the one with a low coefficient of expansion is fixed to the support D and the other having a high coefficient of expansion is fixed to another support DI, isolated from support D. The two blades are connected & to each other at their end where < / B> is the contact piece E ,.
The support D being connected to the incoming wire of the main current and the support D ' to the wire of the electro A, the main current passes through the blade having a low coefficient of expansion and if this blade is of a metal having a high resistivity, such as invar, this blade is heated by the passage of the current and transmits its heat by conductivity to the blade having a large coefficient of expansion thus producing, after a certain period of time, the spacing of the contact parts F and E .
In the figure of eight to be able to adjust the time required to the spacing of the two contact pieces F and E, a metal slider L can be slid along the two bands, thus making it possible to decrease or increase the electrical resistance of the metal blades and consequently the rapidity of heating.
The embodiment shown in fig. 5, is similar to that shown in fig. 4, except that the contact piece F is fixed to the end of a bi-metallic strip 0, the latter being fixed to a fixed support P, the purpose of this arrangement is to compensate for the effect of the ambient temperature.
This blade 0 must have a sufficient section not to be heated by the current which can there pass, moreover it must be composed of metals having the same coefficient of expansion as those of the blade C. It is evident that in the case (fig. 1, 2, 3, and 4, if the temperature ambient temperature is high, it will take less time at equal current to produce the gap between the contact parts E, F, from each other, than if the ambient temperature is low, whereas with the use of a compensator such as the bi-metallic blade 0, the contact piece F tends to approaching the contact part -E when the temperature is high,
thus forcing this part to make a larger distance to break the contact.
The embodiment shown in fig. 6 is similar to that shown in fig. 2, except that the part of contact F instead of being fixed, is placed on a second blade dila table B, maintained at its two ends by fixed supports S and 81, in order to compensate for the effect of the ambient temperature, a-end that the time lapse, to equal of current, to produce the spacing of the contact parts F and E, which is substantially the same whatever the ambient temperature.
