Une forme d'exécution de cette machine à empaqueter est représentée, à titre d'exem ple, au dessin annexé, dans lequel: La fig. 1 montre une élévation latérale de l'ensemble de la machine à empaqueter; La fig. 2 est une vue en plan du m6ca- nisme de repliage et d'un magasin récepteur; La fig. â est une élévation latérale du mé canisme de repliagë et du magasin récep teur;
Method for closing packages of parallelepipedal bundles and a packaging machine for carrying out this method. The present invention relates to the packaging of block-shaped articles or bundles of articles by means of open ended parallelepiped packages.
The method according to the invention aims to automatically seal the open end of packages of parallelepipedal bundles open at one end and formed so that the length of a wide end tab folded last is greater than the length. thickness of the wrapped article and it is characterized in that one first forms the lateral folds in the end part of the wrapping and then folds two wide end tabs of the wrapping so that the free end of the wide end tab folded in the last place extends by an extension beyond the adjacent end face of the packaging and - that said extension is then folded over the corresponding part of the '' wrapping and secures the wide end tab folded last by gluing to the other tab
wide end.
The wrapping machine for carrying out this method and the type in which a web of material is advanced across the path of a bundle and moved by the bundle through a folding mechanism which wraps the bundle in a wrapping parallelepipedal with end or green. This packaging machine has means for controlling the web so that the length of the wide end tab folded last is greater than the thickness of the article or package of articles, and means to fold back and press the free end of the wide end tab folded last on the corresponding part of the packaging.
One embodiment of this packaging machine is shown, by way of example, in the accompanying drawing, in which: FIG. 1 shows a side elevation of the assembly of the packaging machine; Fig. 2 is a plan view of the folding mechanism and a receiving magazine; Fig. â is a side elevation of the folding mechanism and receiving magazine;
Figs. 4, 5 and 6 indicate the operation of a support grid combined with the receiving magazine, and fig. 7 is a perspective view of a closed package article.
Fig. 1 shows a food store 1 arranged to be loaded with packages containing cigarettes and to lower them to the table 2 of the machine. Below the table 2 of the machine and on each side of it, are mounted a pair of endless conveyors 3 which are connected in tervall by rods 4 carrying pushers 5 arranged to move in a slot formed in the machine table. Each pusher 5 is arranged to grab the lowest packet in the magazine 1 and drive it along the machine table.
In front of the store 1 is disposed, above the machine table, a reel 6 carrying the roll of packaging material 7 which is continuously unwound from the reel to. using a pair of rollers 8 and 9 driven by a permanent rotational movement. When the. strip 7 leaves the rollers 8 and 9, it passes between a pair of cutting blades 10 and 11 which periodically cut a length of this strip. The strip 7 passes between the blades 10 and 11 between two guide pieces 12 and 13 which support the strip in a vertical position so that the latter extends both above and below the path. some packages.
The aforementioned cutting mechanism is preferably controlled such that when a pusher 5 brings a packet into engagement with the strip 7, a length is cut from the. band 7 as soon as the packet comes into engagement with it. The cut length of the strip 7 then advances so that the part which extends below the table of the machine is shorter than the. part which extends above the machine table, although the arrangement could also be such that the cutting operation could be delayed so as to allow the cut length to slide relative to the packet and 'thus exert the same effect.
When the length a. been cut from the strip, the pusher 5 leads the packet of these garettes and the length of material through a folding mechanism arranged to form thereof a parallelepipedal or green packaging at one end in the well-known manner and: having a well-known construction. When the wrapped package leaves the folding mechanism, it is driven forward with a speed greater than the linear speed of the pusher: 5 to achieve such advanement of the strip 7 as the. length of the wide end tab folded in last is greater than the thickness of the article to. packaging.
The latter thus arrives under a receiving store 1 intended to receive it. When the package is in this position, the machine forms side folds in the end portion of the package wrap to fold back the side tabs at the open end of the package, and a pair of lightweight springs 26 lowers slightly. the upper wide end tab to prevent side tabs coming in. from being folded over from deforming outwardly due to the natural rigidity of the packaging material.
When the package is brought to rest under the receiving magazine 14, a platform 15 moves upward and a lip 16 formed thereon folds over. wide lower end tab of the packaging upwards. This part of the platform 15 which is adjacent to the. lip 16 is preferably vented to allow a packaging mechanism to come into contact. with the lower wide end tab, or the. underside of the package, or both, to apply an adhesive to the desired portion of the package.
When the platform 15 begins its upward movement, as indicated at. the son. 4. a brush 17 located at the free end of an eha.uffer iron 18 grips the. top wide end tab and brush this down over the other wide end tab to glue it on. the packet then occupying the position indicated in fig. 6.
The packaging closing mechanism is provided with a sliding connecting rod 19 which is arranged to slide in a recess of the platform 15 and to come into contact with the lower edge of the packet and press the lower front edge thereof. here firmly against the lip 16 in order to form a pronounced crease on the lower wide tab and also to ensure that the brush 17 brushes the upper wide tab down over the end of the packet and thus applies it tightly to that -this.
When the package reaches the position shown in fig. 6, the platform 15 begins to descend, after which a grid hinged to the receiving magazine 14 automatically operates to support the package in this magazine so that the next package B which follows engages the extension 20 of the wide end tab top of the packaging which envelops package A. When the next following package B arrives under the receiving magazine, it engages with the extension 20 and folds it back under package A.
When the package B is brought to rest on the platform 15, the aforementioned grid releases its support from the upper package A and, as a result of the subsequent movement of the package B, the extension 20 of the package of the upper package A is firmly pressed against. the underside of it. Thanks to the combined action of the brush 17 and the upward pressure of the package B, the outer wide end tab of the packaging of the package A is applied smoothly to the underlying parts, and its extension 20 is brought back smoothly against the. underside of package A.
The grid which supports the package in the receiving magazine 14 comprises two angled levers 21, one arm of which is arranged to be located normally in said magazine under the influence of a spring 22, and these arms are withdrawn., Outside said magazine by cam plates 23 mounted in the folding element 24 and. arranged to come into engagement with the arm 25 of the levers 21. It is obvious that the extension of the upper wide tab can be folded over the underside of the pack using a folding element actuated by the main control of the machine, in the same way as the grid 21.
It should be noted that it is possible, with the above-described machine, to wrap packs of cigarettes in an outer envelope of transparent thin paper, which can easily be removed from the pack by rubbing the extension 20 partially fixed by the thumb towards the top, and then tearing the envelope from the package. It should be noted that the ends of a packet containing tobacco usually have a recess which makes it extremely difficult to wrap it in an outer wrapping, because there is no support. against which we could press the side legs and two wide legs in order to fasten them firmly together to glue them.
By virtue of the above-described process, however, the wide end tab folded last can be made to rest on the end of the tobacco packet and its extension can be fixed to the underside of the packet, thus eliminating the difficulties experienced up to present for wrapping packages having recesses at each end.
