Description
Process for the production of bisaminotolylanthrone. According to the process of the present invention, a new compound is obtained from anthraquinone and salts of o-toluidine, bisaminotolylanthrone, to which the following formula is to be attached:
EMI0001.0006
The bisaminophenylanthrone can be used as a starting material for the production of dyes from various groups.
EXEMPLARY EMBODIMENT: A mixture of 2000 parts by weight of anthraquinone, 500 parts by weight of hydrochloric acid o-toluidine and 1000 parts by weight of o-toluidine is heated to a bath temperature for about two to three hours with stirring. The reaction product, which is colored by the fuchsin violet formed at the same time, is oversaturated with alkali and freed from excess toluidine by steam distillation.
The residue is dissolved in dilute hydrochloric acid, the unchanged anthraquinone is filtered off, precipitated with alkali and, after drying, recrystallized from boiling chlorobenzene. The bisaminotolyl anthrone is a light brown powder that melts at 255. In its properties it resembles bisaminophenylanthrone and, in substance and in the solutions of its salts, shows a tendency to turn reddish in the air.
In the example above, the weight ratios can be changed within wide limits; Instead of the hydrochloric aniline bases, salts of other mineral acids can be used.
