Description
Process for the production of highly concentrated and stiekogyd-free nitric acid. In the case of direct condensation of the ammonia oxidation gases, as is known, in the most favorable case, about 60 to 65% nitric acid is obtained. By treating them with liquid nitrogen oxides, even more concentrated acids are obtained, but even in this way it is not possible to obtain practically 100% acid completely, unless one works under pressure, which requires expensive equipment.
It has been found that under economically favorable conditions, 99 to 100% colorless nitric acid can be obtained smoothly if strong nitric acid, for example 80 and higher percentage, is treated with nitrogen oxide and ozone-containing oxygen.
Instead of the relatively dilute acid which occurs directly during the condensation of the ammonia oxidation gases, a higher concentration, nitrogen oxide-containing nitric acid of a different Provenance can of course also be used. In this case, too, the advantages of the process are that, in addition to a more extensive concentration of nitric acid, a colorless product, that is to say free from carbon dioxide, is easily obtained.
The usual up to now, associated with losses blowing off or distilling off the dissolved nitrogen oxides falls away with the above work way.
