Train routier.
Road train. The object of the invention is a road train. It comprises, like other known third-party trains, a towing vehicle and a four-wheel towed vehicle. It differs from it on the other hand in that it has a rigid boom integral with the front end, movable, of the towed vehicle as well as a drive unit which is mounted on the tractor to which the boom is. hooked up and which can be moved vertically by means of a control device, so as to allow part of the weight of the towed vehicle to be transferred to the tractor, in order to be able to increase the grip of the wheels rear of the towing vehicle on the ground.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the road train.
Fig. 1 is an overall side elevation thereof; Figs. 2 and 3 are a side view and a partial plan on a larger scale. This embodiment comprises the motor tractor vehicle 1 with four wheels 2, 3 and the towed vehicle 4, also with four wheels 5, 6.
The two front wheels 5 of the vehicle 4 belong to a movable front axle 7 comprising a plate 8 having a circular rim 9 having a transverse L-shaped section standing on one of its branches. The horizontal branch of the flange 9 is housed in a groove 10 of a ring 11 firmly fixed to the bridge 12 of the vehicle 4. In this way, the front end 7 is connected to the rest of the vehicle so as to be able to pivot, its guidance given by the flange 9 and the ring 11. The front end 7 can moreover be secured to the rest of the vehicle at a position corresponding to walking in a straight line by a cleat 13 pivoting about an axis horizontal on the ring 11 and capable of being housed between two ears 14 of the plate 8; the spacing of the latter is such that the cleat 13 has no play when it is between them.
The rigid jib 18 of the vehicle 4 is solid at its rear end of the plate 8 and is provided at its anterior end with a drawbar 15. This can slide in the jib, is subjected to the ac tion of a powerful spring 16 tending to move it forward by resting, on the one hand, on a stop 17 of 18, on the other hand, on a collar of the bar 15 and ends at the front by a fork 19 carrying two tabs 20, 21 returned by springs 22, 22a working in compression. The fork 19 is intended to embrace a circular nut 23, constituting the drive member mentioned in the introduction and the cleats 20, 21 to bear on the nut to drive the vehicle 4, the whole forming a kind hook.
Through this nut 23 passes a vertical screw 24 carried by the towing vehicle 1 and which can be rotated by means of a bevel gear 25, as well as a crank 26. At the bottom of the nut 23 is a flange 27 on which the fork 19 rests. By actuating the crank 26 in the desired direction, the arrow 18 and consequently the front end 7 of the vehicle 4 are raised, the weight of which is thus partially transferred to the rear wheels 3 of the vehicle 1, increasing their grip on the ground.
The boom 18 is double bent at 28 so that its front part is higher than its rear part and can not be above the rear of the vehicle 1 so that the latter can perform a movement of great amplitude. On the other hand, it carries rollers 29 intended to roll on ramps 30 of this vehicle 1 during the coupling operation.
The vehicle 4 is provided with an ordinary brake 31 acting on its rear wheels and returned to the released position by a spring 41; the brake is controlled by a cable 32 resting on return rollers 33, 34 of the vehicle 4, such that it passes vertically from the bridge 12 to the front end 7 through a channel coinciding with the axis of rotation of this front - train 7 and on return rollers 35, 36 of the boom 18 to end at the lower end of a spreader lever 37; pulling the cable 32 forward the brake 31 is applied.
To this end, the lifter 37 is pivoted about a horizontal axis at the rear end of the drawbar 15 and is connected at its upper end by a link 38 to a slide 39 which can be seen in a guide. 40 of the arrow 18 parallel to the axis thereof. The slide 33 is supported on a part 42 of generally annular shape surrounding the screw and movable pa rallel to the longitudinal axis of the tractor vehicle 1 by means of a nut 43 which it carries; a screw 44 fitted with a handwheel 45 passes through the nut 43.
By actuating this handwheel in the desired direction, the slide 39 is moved backwards, the lever 37 is tilted in the direction of the movement performed by the needles of a clockwise (fig. 1 and 2) and we applies the brake 31 despite the opposition of the spring 41.
The coupling of the two vehicles takes place as follows: The vehicle 1 is moved back in the axis of the jib 18; the rollers 29 run slowly on the ramps 30 by lifting the boom 18, the fork 19 arriving above the re edge 27 of the nut 23, which has previously been brought to a sufficiently low position for this, the cleats 20, 21 pass to the right and to the left of the nut 23 while tilting, then return to their normal position under the action of the springs 22, 22a trapping 23 between them. During this maneuver, the spring 16 compresses, then relaxes by moving the two vehicles 1. 4 apart, that is to say, it advances the drawbar 15 in the direction of 1, which it puts the slide 39 in contact with the part 42 and releases the brake 31.
By then actuating the crank 26 in the desired direction, the nut 23 is raised and the front end 7 of the vehicle 4 is slightly raised.
If the driver of the vehicle 1 wants to act on the brake 31, he can move the part 42 back by means of the steering wheel 45, which pushes the slide backwards and produces a traction of the cable 32 from rear to front, if although this brake 31 is tightened, despite the opposition of the spring 41. In the event that it wishes to prevent the action of the brake 31, for example for reverse gear, it suffices for it to turn the flywheel 45 so that the slider 39 can move back and forth by the ef fect of the spring 41. The point of attachment of the cable 32 to the rudder 37 therefore moves back, which allows a slight compression of the spring 16 and a slight sliding of the draw bar 15 from front to rear without braking being able to occur.
Due to the circular shape of the part 42, variations in the position of the vehicle 1 relative to the vehicle 4 during changes of direction have no influence on the position of the slide 39 and therefore do not risk act on the brake 31.
