Sur cette tringle ou jauge, et après avoir ramené le support 42 dans la. position dans laquelle il est représenté à la fig. 4., ladite jauge res tant dans le repli au-dessous des tringles 41 et 43, ainsi que cela est représenté à la fi;
Process for the manufacture of cigars of uniform cross-section over their entire length as well as paperless cigarettes and apparatus for its implementation. The present invention comprises a process for the. manufacture of sectional cigars. transverse uniform throughout their length, such as those called "Swiss tips" as well as paperless cigarettes and a device for its implementation.
According to this process, one forms: in a part of a flexible strip which can move, on itself, along its length, in at least one direction, a transverse fold in which one spreads the, tripe or small strands of tobacco, we bring one to the other and hand keeps the edges of this fold on this tripe or these strands close together, stretches and moves the strip while continuing to exert a tension on it, to grip this tripe or these strands in this fold and bring it or bring them, under the action of the movement, of the strip,. to form a cylindrical body on which it is then wound, still under the action of the movement of the strip,
tobacco leaves to envelop the body thus formed.
The device for the implementation of the process comprises a flexible strip actuated by at least one of two members which support it, so that its part comprised between these members moves on itself, along its length, in the middle. at least one direction, and at least one of which can be moved while remaining parallel to itself, in the longitudinal direction of the strip, by a positive dis:
control, in order to form in the strip between two guides, which can be brought together and separated from one another, a transverse fold intended to receive the tripe or the small strands of tobacco to form, under the action of the movement of the strip, a cylindrical body, then tobacco leaves to wrap the latter, a .dispositif for adjusting and tensioning the strip being provided.
The accompanying drawing shows, by way of example, one embodiment of the positive device.
Fig. 1 is a side elevation; Fig. 2 is a front elevation; Fig. 3 is a plan view with parts broken away; Figs. 4, 5, 6 are on a larger scale than that of the preceding figures, views of details relating to the operation; Figs. 7, 8 and 9 are detail views of the device; fig. 8 being a section along line VIII-VIII of FIG. 9.
The device according to these figures has a frame 11 on which are mounted to rotate and parallel to one another drive members, formed by rollers 12 and 13, and one of which, 13, can be moved, per- peridicularly to its longitudinal axis, for a purpose which will be indicated below. AT. To this end, its bearings 14 are mounted on slides 15, and joined by means of connecting rods 16, to levers 1.7, arranged. at both ends of a rod 18 which is mounted in supports 19 provided on the frame 11.
The rod 18 is for view of a handle 20 (Fig. 1) for the ma nauvre of the roller 13. The handle 20 is fixed by one of its. ends, a cable 21, passing over pulleys, grooves 22 and 23 fixed to the frame 11, the cable of which the other end is. re linked to. a. pedal 24, which allows the roller 13 to be brought back with the foot in the position in which it is shown in combination with, FIG. 1, as we will see. lower.
A Mitée 14a, adjustable and mounted on the frame 11, l11eilrnct to adjust the position of the roller 13, according to the. size of the cigar to be obtained, as described below.
A flexible strip 25 is chained from its ends respectively to the rollers 12 and 13, and is actuated by them, when the device is in operation, by the braking of two chains 27 and 8, passing respectively. on chain wheels 9 and 30 fixed on the shafts of said rollers and on chain wheels 31 and 32 mounted on a driven shaft 33. This shaft 33 is.
actuated by a crank 34 actuating two wheels: of angles 35 and 36, the latter of which actuates a chain wheel 37 on which passes a chain 38 which is engaged with a chain wheel 39 mounted on the shaft 33 .
The frame 28 actuating the roller 13 is nia.intenue constantly stretched during the movements of this roller, by a tensioner constituted by a lever 61 pivoted at 62 to the frame 11 and carrying at its free end a chain wheel 63 which presses on the a key strands of the chain in question.
On the frame 11, between the rollers 12 and 13, there is provided a support 40 of two guides formed by two rods 41 and 43 and between which a fold or hernia is formed in the. flexible strip 25. This support 40 is placed parallel to the axes of the rollers 12 and 13 and carries a rotary rod 41, cylindrical, parallel to the axes of the rollers and which bears against a part 44 (fig. 3, 8 and 9) fixed to the mo @ -en a plaquel.te 54 on an angle iron 45. The latter, as well as the part 44, are intended to prevent the rotary trin gle 41 from flexing during the formation of the cigar, as well as 'we will see below.
On its face which is in contact with the, trin gle, the part 44 has a slight longitudinal recess in which is. house it. trin gle (fig. 8).
The support, .1 (1 further carries a support 42i, of another rotary rod 4-: 3, parallel to the. Rod. 41, support 43 which can oscillate on pins 4f> provided at each end of the rod. support 40. The. rod 43 rests against a part 44, identical to that against which the rod 41 rests and having the same purpose. This part 44 is fixed, like that mentioned above, on an iron to. angle 47.
The rods 41 and 43 each carry at one of their ends a grooved pulley 55 and 51 respectively over which pass strings 5 7 and 58 transmitting to them. movement of two pulleys 59 and 60 mounted on the driven shaft 33.
The rotary rods 41. and 43 are. if killed in a plane lower than that passing through the top of the two rollers 12 and 13 in order to promote the formation of the fold.
A frame 48, pivoted on the support 42 and whose lateral sides each carry a part 49 provided with notches 50, 51 which can be engaged in open keys 5 \?, Provided on either side of the support 411, allows to maintain the support: 42 in the. position in which it is represented at, the. fig. 4 or to bring it, for example, to an inclined position such as that in which it is shown in FIG. 5. By making the nozzles 52 penetrate into the notches 51, the trin gles can be kept slightly away from each other.
In its position shown in FIGS. 1 and 5, the support 42 rests on two stops 78 fixed on the frame 11 of the device.
The rods 41 and 43 are placed, as well as that. is shown in the drawing, below the upper part of the flexible strip 25.
We use -in the following way (read say positive.
The various organs of the device being clans the position in which they are represented in. 1a, fig. 1, and the person who uses the device being in front of it, on the side of the pedal, begins by adjusting the fold to be floured in the. commonplace 25 depending on the size of the cigars or cigarettes you want to get. For this, it moves the roller 13 by lever 20 perpendicular to its axis towards roller 12, to the rear end of the slides 15.
This movement of the roller 13 has the effect of slackening the strip 25 on which, after having disengaged the support 42 from its stops of the frame 48 and having brought it into the inclined position in which it is shown in FIG. 5, a rod, metal or other, having for example a length substantially equal to the width of the canvas and having the diameter of the cigars or cigarettes to be manufactured, is placed. This rod, which has not been mentioned above, as it is not shown in the drawing, serves as the gauge and the device can be fitted with a series of these rods or gauges, according to the various sizes of stations or cigarettes to be made.
On this rod or gauge, and after bringing the support 42 back into the. position in which it is shown in FIG. 4., said gauge res both in the fold below the rods 41 and 43, as shown at fi;
-. 6, the strip 25 is stretched by a displacement of the roller 13, in the opposite direction to the displacement seen above, displacement carried out either by means of the lever 20 or at the foot, by the pedal 2.1, and while keeping the strip tensioned , is adjusted by means of the stop 14a seen above, the extreme position in which must be brought the roller 13 to obtain the cigar or cigarette size corresponding to said gauge.
This adjustment being made, the gauge is removed by a new displacement of the roller 13 and of the support 42 and small parts 53 of the same diameter as the rod which has just been removed from the strip are placed in the ends of the fold of the strip. fold and which constitute stoppers intended to prevent the tobacco contained in the fold, out of the ends of the latter. The tripe or the small strands of tobacco are then poured into this fold over which the strip 25 is again stretched by the lever 20 or pedal 24. In order to prevent the two plugs 53 from coming out of the fold, provision has been made for its two ends of the stops 64 formed by small parts, for example made of wood, carried by consoles 65 fixed to the support 40.
While adjusting by the handle 20 the tension of the band according to the nature of the tobacco to be worked, the person who uses the device actuates the crank 34. The latter causes by the chain 38 and the chain wheels 37 and 39 l 'dragging the shaft 33 which simultaneously actuates the chains 27 and 28, the rollers 12 and 13 carrying the strip 25 in the same direction as well as the rods 41 and 43 by the ropes 57 and 58, in one direction or in the other according to the direction of rotation of. the crank. The rotation of the rods 41 and 43 facilitates the movement of the strip 25 by reducing the friction.
By its movement, the strip 25 forms with the tripe or the small strands of tobacco a cylindrical body, as shown in FIG. 6, in which we see the shape retained by the strip, hand held by the bouçhans 53 and the two rods 41 and 43. These latter could be subject to deformations, or bending, under the action of the tension of the band, this is the reason why these rods bear against the parts 44, seen above.
When the tripe or the small strands of your container form the cylindrical body, the person who uses the device and who has within reach, near the device, the leaves of your container to form the undercoat and the blanket or dress in the case of cibars and to form the envelope in the case of cigarettes, slightly separate the rods 41 and 43 from each other by moving the: frame 48 so that the nozzles 52 enter the notch 51:
1t1 parts. She then places a previously gummed tobacco leaf and has it rolled up on the cylindrical body to form the envelope if he avoids making cigarettes, naked if he:
'involves making cigars and starting, for example, from the left side, the underside sheets next to each other with their neighboring ends slightly overlapped, one of the edges being placed over the slit formed by the spacing -of the trin- -n'les 41 and 43.
The edge in question is then introduced into this slot, for example by means of a small wooden pallet and after bringing the rods .11 and 43 closer together, by making the nozzles 52 penetrate into the notches 50 , we activate it. crank 34 so as to bring all the sheets prepared to form the sub-layer into the fold and to roll them around the cylindrical body already formed by the tripe. We thus form a cigar doll.
r # n Once the infant has finished the cigar, the person using the device takes the tobacco leaves called blankets, previously starched or gummed, and rolls them around the infant throughout. length of this one, but starting this time from the right side, in order to obtain a crossing of the sheets known as undercoat and cover, to have a better cigar draw and more solidity.
This winding can sc. do this in a manner substantially analogous to that described for the liner sheets. When the cover has. been rolled up all over. length of the cigar, said person releases it, by a movement operated on the lever 20, by opening the fold of the band, and by lifting a light frame 66 located under the band \? 5 and pivoted at G? on the support 40.
the -pièce produced is rolled on the thus stretched strip, in a device not shown in the drawing, provided for the, collect. The: ea.d-re 66 is provided at each of its ends, with a handle 68. As soon as the finished part has left the strip, the same operations can be repeated for the. manufacture of another analogous part, without worrying about the adjustment of the band, as long as we have cibars of the same ca free to manufacture.
If he wants to make cigars of other diameters, the person who uses the device begins by adjusting the band with the corresponding gauge :ponda.nte, pure: he can start his manufacture as described below. -above.
The device which is the subject of the present invention makes it possible to use both for the undercoat and for the. covering sheets of all sizes, whereas in manual production only sheets of relatively large dimensions can be used.
Instead of a strip .of a certain ionobor, fixed by each .of its ends, respectively to. one of the rollers, we could provide for the use (one endless belt passing over the dc # ux rollers 1.2 and 13. The device can be provided with tables to store the tobacco and the leaves prepared for it. 'advance, as well as (the support for accessories, such as rods serving as gauges, plugs .etc.
The roller control device, instead of being installed on the frame, could be installed in any other way close to it - and be actuated by the motor. The bou clions 53 could be connected to the support 4 \? by a flexible clip. The driving belt may be of leather, waxed canvas, impermeabilized fabric, nine or other suitable material. It will preferably be waterproof in order to prevent the humidity of the tobacco from wetting the two faces of the fabric too much, which would cause the two rods 41 and 43 to rust.
Each He rod and; 43 could rest on more than one part 44 and could be fixed instead of being rotatable.
The parts 49 of the frame 48 could be provided with longitudinal slots allowing. to adjust their position on this frame. They could have more than two notches.
The roller 13 could be moved other than by the slide device described, for example by means of oscillating arms or other device.
The rollers 12 and 13 carrying the flexible strip and the rods 41 and 43 for the formation of the fold could be arranged relative to each other, otherwise than described, for example so that the strip coming from a roll on the first rod, is located in a substantially horizontal plane, while the part passing from the other rod on the other roller may be -clans a substantially vertical or inclined plane. This arrangement would have the advantage of facilitating the introduction of the undercoat and cover sheets placed on the horizontal part of the strip, in the fold formed between the two rods.
