Description
Process for the preparation of a tanning agent. In a further elaboration of the process according to the main patent, it was found that a tanning agent with valuable properties is created when cresol is reacted with aldol and chloronitrobenzenesulfonic acid. The cresol is expediently condensed with aldol and the condensation product formed is reacted with chloronitrobenzenesulfonic acid. It can be advantageous to carry out the implementation under pressure.
The tanning material is a homogeneous, brownish, syrupy solution. It is easily soluble in N, water and alkalis, gelatine falls out of its solution and gives characteristic colorations with iron salts. Example ? 0 parts of cresol are mixed with 40 parts of Aldo, l in the presence of a catalyst, e.g. B. G parts concentrated hydrochloric acid, condensed in a well-known manner to form a resinous body. This is dissolved warm in 90 parts of water and 60 parts of sodium hydroxide solution (40 'B6).
Brings into the solution. 120 parts of sodium chloronitrobenzenesulphate are added while stirring well and, after everything has dissolved, the mass is slowly heated to a low boiling point. The boiling temperature is maintained for so long. until a sample after dilution with water on the addition of acid, no more precipitate separates out. The aqueous solution obtained can be evaporated to dryness or used as such for tanning after the required dilution and adjustment to the desired acidity.
Quick tanning is achieved. The leathers obtained are distinguished by their light color, full handle and high tear strength. The tanning can of course also be carried out in the presence of other vegetable or artificial tanning agents.
