Lock nut and method of making it. This invention relates to a locking nut and a method for making the same. This nut is of the type comprising. two wings superimposed and connected to each other by a yoke, 'these wings having threaded openings and slightly misaligned so that when a bolt is screwed into the openings, it gets stuck or becomes blocked in the deformed raudé duct, which locks the nut onto the bolt.
To date, locking nuts of: this type have not given good results. The main difficulties were due to the fact that the yoke joining the two wings is prone to crack or break, which makes the nut ineffective and, moreover, when the nut has been left in position for some time on a bolt, or after it has been removed and put back in place several times, the yoke metal loses its elasticity, which has. as a result that the nut ceases to jam on the bolt and does not remain in a fixed position on said bolt.
The object of the present invention is to develop an improved nut of the above-mentioned type which overcomes these difficulties. The nut according to the invention -is characterized in that it has been formed by folding a metal blank of a shaped metal -so as to present an elongated grain, oriented in a given direction, .lie, folding having been carried out along a line arranged transversely to said direction.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment .de, this nut and various phases of its manufacture.

As specified above and as shown in particular in FIGS. 8 and 9, the grain of the metal of the finished nut is oriented from the outer end of: each of the wings 18, 18 towards the yoke 14, then across this yoke, substantially at right angles to the line . around which 1-th nut blank a. been folded.
As a result, bending the blank to form the nut does not crack or kiss the metal as would be the case if the grain of said metal extended in the direction of the fold line of the blank. When the grain of the metal is oriented as described, the nuts are found to retain their elasticity over a long period of time and that, even when frequently lifted and replaced, the metal of the yoke did.
not or has little tendency to break or lose elasticity as in previous constructions.
