Process for simultaneously obtaining three images for trichromy and apparatus for carrying out this process. The present invention relates to a process for simultaneously obtaining three images corresponding to three basic colors, for the three-color process, and to an apparatus for carrying out this process.
According to the latter, the pictures are taken using a device such that part of the rays passing through the objective is reflected by a mirror on a sensitive organ (plate or film) which it impresses after having passed through a color selector screen, the rest of the rays arriving on a screen inclined with respect to the axis of the objective, polished, transparent enough to allow part of said rays to pass, which is used for printing the cliché for one color, while another part is reflected by said screen to serve for printing the plate corresponding to the third color.
Preferably, said polished screen will be made of a colored transparent material, so as to itself select the rays which pass through it; while another transparent screen having the desired color will be placed on the path of the reflected rays, for the selection of those which are to form the image.
We could, for example, take the rays reflected by the mirror as red, by interposing a red screen on the path of these rays; take a tilted green screen, to reflect part of the rays and select those which cross; the reflected rays being passed through a blue screen.
The first mirror will preferably be provided with many lights. It can be placed close enough to the objective so that substantially all the rays passing through a given part of the latter are reflected, respectively pass through the mirror. .
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the apparatus for carrying out this process.
Fig. 1 schematically shows the device and the respective position occupied by each of the three images: red, blue and green; Fig.2 shows, in perspective, the support of the reflective screen; the latter is tilted at 45 0 ; Fig. 3 indicates how the mirror is mounted, which is pierced with oval holes; variants are shown in figs. 6, 7 and 8; in the latter, the mirror has the shape of a grid.
This mirror can be constructed of silver glass or telescope metal.
Finally, fig. 7 shows the apparatus as a whole, the front part being sup posed removed in order to allow to see inside the arrangement of the various parts of the apparatus.
As we can see, the camera represented looks a lot like ordinary cameras instead of a single shot placed at the back of the darkroom, we have three shots; the screen for the red is very close to the sensitive plate placed in 4 in fig.1, the cliché for the blue is in 1 and the cliché for the green in 2. These clichés are placed in curtain plate holders of the ordinary system. The apparatus therefore comprises, near the objective, a mirror 8 mounted on a support 9 on which it can rotate about a vertical axis. You can adjust its inclination on the axis of the objective using a small graduated plate carried by its axis. Said inclination will preferably be about 450.
After said mirror is the tilted screen 10.
In this device, as an indication, the main dimensions for a 9 X 12 photograph are advantageously: length 21 cm; width 17 cm; height 13 cm; these are small dimensions.
The operation of the device is as follows: the light rays, arriving through the lens of the device, strike the mirror with oval holes.
Some of the rays are reflected on this mirror, pass through a red screen (not shown) and come to impress the sensitive plate placed at 5. Other rays are reflected on the green screen, placed on the support inclined at 450 with respect to to the geometric axis of the objective and are reflected at 6. They impress image 6, which will be the image of the blue screen, through a screen of this color, not represented. Finally, the rays which have crossed the green screen continuing their journey come to impress the plate 7, placed at the rear and it will be the one which gives the photograph for the green.
As can be seen, this device achieves completely, and this with quite simple and inexpensive means, the simultaneous printing of the three images, red, blue and green, and this in ni) time which can be very short, if the lens has the desired properties. This time can vary from approximately '/ io to' / ro of a second for snapshots, so that moving objects can be photographed in color. Timely installation can also be achieved, when necessary.
This device therefore considerably simplifies, in practice, the location of the three trichromic images which, until now, had stopped the industrial development of the invention of Ducos du Hauron, the original inventor of the trichromy.
The bracket supporting the perforated mirror and the inclined support for the green screen are rigidly mounted, their inclination and their distance being exactly calculated on the same support which keeps their spacing fixed once properly adjusted.
As a result, the apparatus is very portable and does not need any prior adjustment; it is always ready to go, like an ordinary device. It is therefore portable, given its low weight and small volume. The apparatus could be provided with the means necessary for taking animated pictures in three colors.
