metronome. The present invention relates to a metronome comprising a rapid escapement clockwork movement, causing an adjustable friction change of speed, which actuates an index animated by a reciprocating movement.
The appended drawing gives, by way of example, one embodiment; Fig. 1 is a front view; Fig. 2 is a front view, on a larger scale and supposedly with the dial removed; Figs. 3, 4 and 5 are detail views of the mechanism.
The watch case 1 contains a watch movement which can be wound by means of the crown 2. This watch movement has a rapid escapement, such as for example a cylinder escapement without a balance.
This clockwork movement causes a friction change of gears, formed by a plate 3, fixed to the axis of one of the wheels of the clockwork movement. The periphery of a wheel 4 is continuously in contact with the face of this plate 3, rotating at the end of an arm 5 capable of pivoting at 6 about an axis fixed to plate 7 of the clockwork movement. This arm 5 is integral with a rack 7, the teeth of which are in a gear relationship with a pinion 9. On the axis of this pinion 8, pivoting in the plate 7, is also fixed a second pinion 10 capable of be put in gear ratio with the sliding pinion 11, sliding along the square part of the re-mount rod under the action of the lever 12, controlled by the stroller 13, passing through the middle part of the watch case 1 .
On the axis of the roller 4 is also fixed a toothed wheel 14, on the teeth of which presses, thanks to the action of a spring 15, the end 16 of a pivoting lever at 17 on the arm 5 The end 18 of this lever, pivoting at 17, presses on a crank 19 whose shaft pivots in two bearings 20, fixed to the plate 7. This crank is connected by its end 21 to a connecting rod 22, guided by two pegs 23, fixed in the plate 7. This connecting rod 22, biased by a spring 24 acting against a pin 25 carried by the end of the rod, can be brought into contact with a pin 26 carried by a plate 27 fixed to an axis 28 swiveling in the plate 7.
This plate 27 is provided with a notch 28 capable of abutting against a pin 30 fixed to the plate 7 and intended to limit in one direction the amplitude of the pivoting of the plate 27. In this notch can penetrate the end of a spring 31, capable of being released by a hook 32, provided at the end of the link 22. The amplitude of the pivoting of the plate 27 is limited in its second direction of oscillation by a stop 33, fixed to the plate 7, and against which comes the back of the spring 34, acting against the pin 26 in a direction opposite to the action of the res out 24.
The pinion axis 9 and the pin 28 are both provided with indexes 35 and 36 respectively, showing on the dial 37 of the instrument the indications provided by this metronome.
When you want to use this metronome, you adjust the speed of the measure indicated by the index 36 by pressing the push-button 13 and turning the crown 2 until the index 35 the selected speed is indicated on dial 37.
By operating in this way, the sliding pinion 11 controls, by means of the pinion 9 and the rack 8, the displacement of the arm 5. By this maneuver, the roller 4 can be placed on a greater or lesser radius of the disc 3. It As a consequence, a more or less rapid rotation of this wheel 4 will follow and therefore a lifting in more or less short periods of time of the pivoting lever at 17. The movements of this lever will be transmitted by the intermediary of the rod 22 to the axis carrying the index 36 showing on the dial 37 the beats of the chosen measure.
For this, the rod 22 in its first movement, will push the pin 26; the amplitude of the plate 27 will then be limited by the stop 3.5. At this moment, the end of the spring 31 will fall into the notch 29. Then the rod 22 will come back, leaving the plate 27 motionless, until the hook 32, releasing the spring 31 from the notch 29, allows the plate 27 to accomplish its second oscillation thanks to the action of the spring 34. The movements will be reproduced in this way.
The free end of the rocker 12 presses on the end of an angled lever 38, pivoted at 39 and which carries at the other end an ankle 40 placed under the arm 5.
When pushing on the pusher 13, the end of the lever 12 acts on the. lever 38 and rotates it; the peg 40, while moving, raises the lever 5; the wheel 4 is no longer in contact with the disc 3 and the device actuating the index 36 stops.
