<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
A cet égard, entr autres solutions,
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>

PATENT D @ INVENTI ON Improvements to timing devices "
The invention relates to timing devices comprising a splitting needle and a rattra needle, - pante.
Until now, such devices were generally used in which a push button caused, when one pressed on it, the stopping of the rattrapante needle even when said push button was released.
To allow said needle to rejoin the doubling needle, it was necessary to press the push button again.
These two maneuvers, apart from not proving to be very convenient, were frequently sources of measurement errors.
The object of the present invention is, above all, to make timing devices of the type in question both more practical and more precise.
It consists, mainly, - and at the same time in making the said devices include a clean push button 4 to control, by its movements, the movements of
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
the rattrapante needle -, to arrange, in such a way, the aforesaid devices, that a movement in one direction, of the push button, causes the stop of the rattrapante needle and that the movement, in the other direction, "automatic button, of said push-button, releases said needle,
It consists, apart from this main provision, of certain other provisions, which are preferably used at the same time and which will be discussed more explicitly below.
It relates more particularly to certain modes of application, as well as certain embodiments of said arrangements; and it relates more particularly still, and / this as new industrial products, the devices of the kind in question comprising application of these same provisions, the special elements specific to their establishment, as well as the installations, fixed or mobile, comprising similar devices.
And it can, in any event, be clearly understood with the aid of the additional description which follows, as well as the appended drawing, which supplement and drawing are, of course, given above all by way of indication.
FIG. 1 of this drawing shows, in plan, the mechanism suitable for controlling the split-seconds hand of a chrono-measuring apparatus established in accordance with the invention.
Fig. 2, finally shows, in elevation, on a smaller scale, an installation comprising the aforesaid apparatus.,
According to the invention, and more particularly according to that of its ..iodes of application, as well as those of the embodiments of its various parts, to which it seems that preference should be given, proposing to To establish a timekeeping apparatus, one goes about it as follows, or in a similar way.
First of all, the whole apparatus is established, with the exception of the mechanism specific to controlling the needle rat-
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
-slip, anyway appropriate.
But, as regards said mechanism, making it include a push button to actuate it, it is arranged, in such a way that a movement, in, .un direction, of said push button causes the stopping of the catch needle and the movement, in the other direction, automatic. of said push button, receipt of said needle freely.
For this purpose, for example, recourse is had to that of the embodiments illustrated in FIG. 1 and according to which the procedure is as follows.
We make push button 1, one end of which is. passes outside the housing 2 of the device, capable of sliding relative to said housing, for example by engaging a guide 3 integral with the housing 2, in a groove 4 which is presented to said push button, and to be brought back to its initial position when it has been removed from it, for this reason, simply, an elastic element 5 is fixed to the casing 2, bearing, while being suitably bandaged, on a lug 6 integral with the push button.
Means are provided such that, for an inward movement of the push button 1, (meaning by inward movement, the movement corresponding to a pressing on the push button 1), it is possible to bring, to the external contact of a wheel 7, of axis 7, integral with the split-seconds needle, two symmetrical oscillating clamps 8 and 9, articulated around axes 8 and 9, tending to approach one another (therefore to grip the wheel 7, this is why the acting portions of these parts are provided circular) under the action of a horseshoe spring 10, fixed by an axis IIet whose ends are supported, symmetrically, on appropriate spans 8a and 9a of the aforesaid clamps.
Means are provided for keeping apart from the wheel 7, in normal times, the acting portions of the clamps 8 and 9 and, on the contrary, to bring them into contact with said wheel, when the push button 1 is pressed.
In this regard, among other solutions,
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
a column wheel 13 or the like is articulated around an axis 12, arranged on the axis of symmetry of the clamps 8 and 9, such as, and mounted in such a way as bb that, in normal times, two bosses 8 and 9b, which are made to include those of the portions of the clamps 8 and 9, located opposite the columns of the wheel 13, rest on opposite columns, which keeps the clamps 8 and 9 away from the wheel 7.
and that, .- the inner end of the push button!, can always come, for a sufficient displacement towards the interior of said button, in contact with a tooth 13a of the wheel 13 and can cause an angular movement of said wheel , less than the circumferential pitch, under the antagonistic action of a spring 14, fixed to the housing 2 and carrying a spout 14a, engaged in a female tooth of the wheel 13.
As a result, and if the dimensions, the arrangements of the various elements, and in particular the tensions of the various springs 5 - 10 and 14 have been suitably provided for, a timing device has been produced, the operation of which, as a whole, is similar to 'that of the usual devices of the same kind, but of which the operation of the mechanism immobilizing or releasing the catch-up needle is as follows:
If the push-button 1 is pressed, a slight angular movement of the column wheel 13 is caused, as explained above, against the action of the spring 14, movement sufficient however to allow the two bosses 8b and 9b, under the action of the horseshoe spring 10, to escape the two columns on which they are based and to fall into the gap separating two of these columns. Ge movement therefore corresponds to a reconciliation of the clamps 8 and 9 which then grip the wheel 7, which finally immobilizes the split needle.
If button 1 is released, the latter, under the action of spring 5, returns by itself to its initial position; the spring
14, whose Inaction is preponderant to that of the iron spring
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
on horseback 10, forces the two bosses Sa and 9a to "go up" on the two columns on which they were previously based, which thereby frees the split-up needle and allows it to immediately join the splitting needle.
It should therefore be noted that a measuring operation can be carried out by two consecutive movements of button 1, in the opposite direction, the first of which is positive and the second automatic, whereas, in the devices used up to now, it is necessary to , to achieve the same result, perform two positive movements, in the same direction, therefore necessarily non-consecutive *
This therefore confers on an apparatus established in accordance with the invention much greater convenience and greater precision, since the stopping and starting of the catch-up needle takes place without any delay, whereas in conventional apparatuses the delay. caused by the braking of the trap needle sometimes reached 10% of the stopping time of this needle.
Advantageously, a frame 15 (fig. 2), for example made of bpis, in which the apparatus can be housed and to which a rounded shape is given is established for a timer device of the type just described. allowing to hold it well and, at the same time, to conveniently operate the device.
Again advantageously, said frame 15 is made to include a board 16, which is provided with a rod. spring 17 enclosing a block of perforated paper 18.
It is conceivable that the operator can thus hold the frame 14 and operate the timing device using only one hand, while, with the other: dwarf, he can write his observations on a sheet of paper. , easily detachable when covered, to pass. without wasting time, to a new blank sheet.
As goes without saying, and as is moreover already apparent from what precedes, the invention is in no way limited to
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
that of its modes of application, nor to those of the 'Iodes of realization of its various parts, having been more especially indicated; it embraces, on the contrary, all the variants, noted that where the column wheel 13 more especially described, would be replaced by any other body suitable for allowing, by one of its movements, a bringing together of the grippers 8 and 9.
