Abstract

L'invention concerne des compositions de brai mésophase qui peuvent être obtenues en soumettant des compositions de brai isotrope à un traitement thermique. Des procédés de production de compositions de brai mésophase peuvent comprendre le traitement thermique d'une composition de brai isotrope comprenant deux classes aromatiques ou plus liées à au moins un pont méthylène entre chaque classe aromatique, à une température d'environ 300 °C à environ 500 °C pour produire une composition de brai mésophase ayant un poids moléculaire moyen en poids d'environ 300 g/mol à environ 2 000 g/mol, un point de ramollissement d'environ 100 °C ou plus, une teneur en mésophase d'environ 0,01 % à 100 % en volume, sur la base du volume total de la composition de brai de mésophase, et un résidu de micro-carbone d'environ 25 % en poids ou plus, sur la base du poids total de la composition de brai de mésophase ; le traitement thermique induisant une cyclisation entre au moins deux des deux classes aromatiques ou plus pour former un ou plusieurs cycles à 5 chaînons et/ou des cycles à 6 chaînons.
