Abstract
L'invention porte sur une plaque (28) de blindage composite destinée à absorber et dissiper l'énergie cinétique émanant de projectiles (12) haute vitesse perçant le blindage. Cette plaque (28) comprend une couche interne unique de billes (18) de céramique de haute densité qui sont directement liées et retenues sous forme d'une plaque par un matériau (16) solidifié de sorte que les billes (18) soient liées dans une pluralité de rangées adjacentes. Cette plaque se caractérise en ce que les billes ont une teneur en Al2O3 d'au moins 93 % et une gravité spécifique d'au moins 2,5, la plus grande partie de ces billes (18) ayant chacune au moins un axe de 3 mm de long et étant liées par le matériau (16) solidifié sous forme d'une couche interne unique de rangées adjacentes. La majorité des billes (18) est en contact direct avec au moins 4 billes adjacentes, et le matériau (16) solidifié et la plaque (28) sont élastiques.
