Abstract
1352418 Welding by pressure; soldering FELDMUHLE ANLAGEN UND PRODUKTIONS GmbH 11 May 1971 14150/71 Heading B3R [Also in Divisions B5 and F3] Armour plate comprises at least one layer comprising at least 90% by weight of sintered alumina and at least one metal layer having a coefficient of thermal expansion greater than that of sintered alumina, the layers having been bonded at above 500 C. Bonding is effected by means of a silver-copper solder at 750-1000 C., the alumina layer having been metallized (e.g. by stoving-on of a Mn/Mo layer), by welding under pressure in a neutral or reducing atmosphere or in vacuo or by means of an inorganic cement such as waterglass (sodium silicate). The metal layer may be iron, steel, austenitic iron-nickel alloy, aluminium or copper and the alumina layer may contain carbides of Ti, W or Mo. The armour plate may comprise layers 1-4 of steel plate, a layer 5 of Al 2 O 3 blocks, a layer 6 of Al 2 O 3 spheres which fit into recesses of the steel plates and a layer 7 of oblique blocks of Al 2 O 3 .
