Processo para a preparação de estireno compreendendo a desidratação em fase gasosa de 1-fenil-etanol em temperatura elevada na presença de um catalisador de desidratação no qual o catalisador de desidratação compreende partículas catalisadoras de alumina moldadas possuindo uma área de superfície (BET) de 80 m¬ 2¬/g a 140 m¬ 2¬/g e um volume de poro (Hg) maior do que 0,65 ml/g.
