A invenção propõe um elemento ótico estendido ao comprido, com um núcleo (2, 11), sobre cuja superfície (6, 14) estão fixadas diversas unidades de transmissão óticas, que se estendem na direção longitudinal do elemento, com uma camada (3, 13) de um adesivo fusível a quente, sendo que a camada (3, 13) se estende por espaços ocos (7) que existem entre a superfície (6, 14) do núcleo (2, 11) e as unidades de transmissão, sendo que o adesivo fusível é inchável em água e a espessura da camada do adesivo fusível é menor do que o diâmetro das unidades de transmissão. Além disso, é descrito um processo para produção do elemento.
