trata-se de compostos precursores para polímero (também conhecidos como blocos construtivos de polímero) derivados a partir de compostos de base biológica e, especificamente, mevalonolactona de base biológica e seus derivados relacionados. através de oxidação esses precursores de base biológica podem ser reagidos para render blocos construtivos para poliésteres, polióis de poliéster e poliamidas (insaturados), assim como precursores para glicidil ésteres e omega-alquenil ésteres. através de redução, esses precursores de base biológica podem ser reagidos para render blocos construtivos de poliésteres, polióis de poliéster, policarbonatos (insaturados), assim como precursores para glicidil éteres e omega-alquenil éteres. através de amidação e/ou abertura de anel nucleofílico, esses precursores de base biológica podem ser reagidos para render blocos construtivos de polióis de poliéster, extensor de cadeia para poliuretanos ou amidas de poliéster.
