Abstract

"NOVOS éSTERES CAROTENóIDES". São propiciados monoésteres, diésteres e poliésteres onde tanto a parcela derivada de ácido como a parcela derivada de álcool dos ésteres são compostos carotenóides. A ligação sintética de éster entre dois ou mais carotenóides fornece novos compostos nos quais as propriedades similares e complementares dos carotenóides individuais são combinadas. Os ésteres só de carotenóides podem ser úteis como antioxidantes, agentes terapêuticos, ingredientes de pigmentação em alimentação de gado ou como agentes de coloração para gorduras. Os poliésteres têm o potencial de atuarem como fios moleculares com características únicas de condução elétrica. Os ésteres só de carotenóides podem ser preparados a partir da esterificação de pelo menos um hidroxicarotenóide com pelo menos um carotenóide carboxílico, ou através da reação do cloreto ácido de um carotenóide carboxílico com um hidroxicarotenóide. Hidroxicarotenóides preferidos incluem luteína, zeaxantina, criptoxantina, violaxantina, caroteno diol, hidroxicaroteno, hidroxilicopeno, aloxantina e deidrocriptoxantina. Carotenóides carboxílicos preferidos incluem bixina, norbixina, ácido <225>-apo-8-carotenóico, crocetina, ácido diapocarotenóico, carboxilcaroteno e azafrina.
