A invenção diz respeito a um processo para aplicar um revestimento a um substrato, em que o revestimento é formado de pelo menos dois componentes ou elementos. Numa modalidade preferida, o revestimento e formado de pelo menos dois metais. De acordo com a invenção, o revestimento é aplicado por deposição de vapor sob condições de estrangulamento.
