<EMI ID=1.1>
la figure 1 représente, en vue en plan, les éléments selon l'invention en combinaison avec des joints de dilatation sans tassement différentiel; la figure 2 représente une vue en élévation de la figure 1; la figure 3 représente une vue selon la flèche F3 à la figure 2;
<EMI ID=2.1>
<EMI ID=3.1>
<EMI ID=4.1>
<EMI ID=5.1>
<EMI ID=6.1>
<EMI ID=7.1>

"Shrinkage or expansion joint" The invention relates to a simple and effective shrinkage joint, which can be used for any civil engineering work, such as road, runway, traffic area, parking or storage, warehouse refrigerator, floating area or screed, sluice, tunnel, building and the like.
Preferably, the joint according to the invention will be used in combination with expansion joints without differential settlement as described in Belgian patents n [deg.] 837.385 and
n [deg.] 848.622.
The main object of the invention is to avoid, at the location of the joints without differential settlement cast in concrete, the sawing of the crack initiators of the joints.
Indeed, the joints without differential settlement are formed by several load transfer elements, of the thin plate type known per se arranged in such a way that the reinforcements with which they are provided are located alternately on the left side and on the right side of an imaginary line to be followed, after a definite hardening of the concrete, by the saw for producing the above-mentioned initiations of cracks in the joints.
The sawing of said crack initiators must be carried out after a certain hardening of the concrete but, in any case, before formation of cracks in the concrete. The sawing moment depends on time, especially humidity and temperature, which makes it difficult to determine the precise moment.
Said sawing work not only requires a lot of time but also requires relatively expensive saws. In addition, there is a risk of chipping the edges of the saw cut.
<EMI ID = 1.1>
to the above drawbacks and to offer an expansion joint by pouring the concrete itself.
Such a joint consists essentially of a separating element proper; means for guiding and / or supporting this element; above this element, an adjustment slat; means for adjusting the height of said adjustment slat and, removably attached to the latter, a second slat whose 1 "thickness is equal to the presupposed vertical shrinkage of the concrete.
In order to better highlight the characteristics of the present invention, a preferred embodiment is described below, by way of example, without limitation, with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:
Figure 1 shows, in plan view, the elements according to the invention in combination with expansion joints without differential settlement; Figure 2 shows an elevational view of Figure 1; Figure 3 shows a view along arrow F3 in Figure 2;
Figures 4, 5 and 6 show sections, respectively, along lines IV-IV, V-V and VI-VI of Figure 2; FIG. 7 represents a cross section of a joint according to the invention after pouring the concrete but before hardening; Figure 8 shows a section similar to that of Figure 7 but after hardening and removal of the concrete; FIG. 9 represents a variant of the execution according to FIG. 8.
In Figure 1 is shown an expansion joint according to the invention. In this example, it is constituted by a composite element of seal without compaction known per se and described in Belgian patent n [deg.] 848.622 formed, in this case, by three isolated elements 1 of load transfer constituted by a seat 2 and hooking means or stirrup bars 3 in the form of a stirrup, located in such a way on the upper face
<EMI ID = 2.1>
half of the upper surface of the seat.
The even and odd elements of said composite element are, still in the manner described in said Belgian patent, mutually secured by beams 4-5 and crosspieces 6.
It is obvious that the length, respectively the number of elements 1, can be determined in relation to the necessities and wishes. The same applies to the joint according to the present invention.
The latter consists essentially of a separating element or slat 7 mounted, by one of its longitudinal edges, on the underlying seat (s) 2, the length of the slat 7 being or not equal to the length of an element isolated 1 or a multiple of such elements.
The element 7 can be made of any material, for example water-repellent plywood or the like, the thickness of which will depend on the construction to be produced.
In order to guide and support element (s) 7, the

overturned while the seats 2 are provided, at suitable distances, with any abutment.
In the embodiment according to the invention, this stop is constituted by a curved extension 9 of one of the frames
<EMI ID = 4.1>
The joint according to the invention is completed by a slat 10 resting on the upper edge of the separation slat 7 by means of a groove 11.
<EMI ID = 5.1>
of the latter causes the vertical displacement of the slat
10. However, such a displacement allows a perfect height adjustment of the joint according to the invention.
Preferably the batten 10 is still surmounted by a batten
<EMI ID = 6.1>
the edges of this slat 17 are provided with chamfers 19-20 in order to avoid chipping of the edges of the concrete.
The invention not only avoids the disadvantages of sawing concrete but it also makes it possible to obtain an expansion joint, in combination with an expansion joint without differential settlement, ready to use. In fact, after setting and removing the concrete (Figure 8), a joint can be obtained
<EMI ID = 7.1>
both in concrete.
For constructions where equality is paramount, the

suitable plastic 22.
It goes without saying that the invention is in no way limited to the execution described above and shown in the accompanying drawings. All variations can be made without departing from the scope of the invention.
