<EMI ID=1.1>
(figure 2).
<EMI ID=2.1>
<EMI ID=4.1>
<EMI ID=5.1>
<EMI ID=6.1>

"Pyrotechnic fuse" The present invention relates to a pyrotechnic fuse of the type in which the heat resulting from the combustion of a retardation charge is used to ignite an explosive propellant charge or the like.
Rockets of this type have already been proposed for self-destruction of shells fired from airplanes, when these shells do not reach a target after a given time.
These known rockets are substantially constituted by a hollow cylindrical body, divided into two successive housings by a transverse wall. One of these housings contains a delay charge and the other an explosive charge, a priming charge being placed in a cell provided for this purpose in the center of said wall, on the explosive charge side.
Due to the fact that this cylindrical body is traditionally made of steel, this fuse has a weight which prohibits its use, for example, in a smoke grenade, lighting or the like, to be fired with a rifle.
It turned out to be impossible to simply replicate the body of this known rocket made of an aluminum alloy, since the greater thermal conductivity and therefore the greater heat loss of such alloys, compared to steel, frequently resulted in misfiring of the explosive or propellant charge.
The object of the present invention is to provide a solution to this problem.
This object is achieved, in accordance with the invention, by a rocket of the type envisaged, characterized in that said body is made of a light metal, respectively an aluminum alloy, and in that it has, internally and externally, the shape of a stepped cylinder, said delay charge being disposed in the housing of smaller diameter, said internal wall extending to the right of said step and having a thickness greater than that of the annular portion forming the step of the bottom of the housing of larger diameter, so as to slow down the thermal flow through this annular part and to promote the flow towards the center of said wall.
For greater clarity, an exemplary embodiment of the invention is described below, without limitation, with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:
FIG. 1 represents a grenade equipped with a rocket according to the invention; and Figure 2 is an axial section, on an enlarged scale, of the part indicated at F2 in Figure 1.
The grenade shown in Figure 1 is a smoke grenade intended to be launched using a rifle.
It has a head 1 fitted, the front of a
<EMI ID = 1.1>
barrel of a gun. In its neighboring part of the head, it contains a bullet trap 5 followed by a delay rocket 6
(figure 2). These arrangements are well known, which is why they are not described here in more detail.
The present invention resides in the construction of
<EMI ID = 2.1>
This rocket 6 comprises a body 7 made of an aluminum alloy, in the form of a stepped hollow cylinder having two successive cylindrical housings 8 and 9 separated from each other by an internal wall 10.
Housing 9 has a larger internal diameter
<EMI ID = 3.1> The internal wall 10 is deformed at its center to present a projection 12 surrounded by the load 11 and a cell 13 directed towards the housing 9. A priming load
14 fills said cell.
The annular part 15 of the bottom of the housing 9 forming a step extends the wall 10 and is of the smallest possible thickness.
The small thickness of the bottom 15 would not allow it to withstand the pressure of the gases (indicated by arrows in FIG. 2) which, in the case described, can reach a value of several hundred bars.
For this reason, the housing 9 has an internal thread 16 allowing the screwing of a reinforcing nut.
17 externally threaded.
A washer 18 made of a thermally insulating material
<EMI ID = 4.1>
if necessary, an aluminum spangle 19 can also be provided to hold the load 14.
The nut 17 has an axial passage 20.
An explosive or propellant charge 21 fills the central passage as well as most of the housing
9.
The housings 8 and 9 are closed, respectively, by a bowl 22 and by a straw 23 made of a consumable material.
By these arrangements, we obtain that a maximum of calories are transmitted to the load 14 and that a minimum of calories are transmitted to the load 21 by the walls of the
<EMI ID = 5.1>
<EMI ID = 6.1>
significantly larger than the wall 10. The screen washer
18 also protects the load 21.
It is obvious that modifications of detail can be made to the above-described example without however departing from the scope of the invention.
