<EMI ID=1.1>
<EMI ID=3.1>
<EMI ID=4.1>
<EMI ID=5.1>
<EMI ID=6.1>
<EMI ID=8.1>
<EMI ID=9.1>
<EMI ID=10.1>
<EMI ID=11.1>
<EMI ID=13.1>
<EMI ID=14.1>
<EMI ID=15.1>
<EMI ID=16.1>
"Assortment of building blocks and method of constructinn by means of this assortment".
The present invention relates to an assortment of building blocks comprising hollow blocks which can be assembled dry and in which a binder can be poured, in particular concrete.
The aim of the present invention is to present an assortment of building blocks allowing the realization of any construction, such as residential house, industrial building etc. in a very rational way.
To this end, according to the invention, this assortment comprises at least two elementary types of blocks and / or types of blocks constituting a combination. endings of blocks of the same elementary type or of the two elementary types, the first type being formed of a block having a part having the appearance of a right rectangular parallelepiped extended at one of its ends by two wings each extending in the extension of a lateral face of the aforesaid part over a distance substantially equal to a fraction of the length of this part and provided at its other end with a thickening capable of being adapted between the free ends of the wings of another block, the part having the appearance of a parallelepi-
<EMI ID = 1.1>
height, the second block having the appearance of a U, whose
des is provided with a thickening similar to that of the block
of the first type and the length of the wings of which is also substantially equal to that of the wings of the block of the first type, the tolerances allowed for the lengths and distances defined above being substantially equal to the thickness of the walls of the parallelepiped, the lower edges and tops of each of the types of blocks being substantially planar, so as to allow them to be placed on top of each other in any relative position.
The invention also relates to a method
construction by means of the aforementioned blocks which is such
that the pouring of the binder or the filling material
in the hollow of the blocks can be carried out after the super-position of any number of rows of blocks and this by placing the blocks freely on top of each other and in the extension of each other, so as to form walls in which extend downward channels. This binder can be ', poured into these channels from the hollows of the blocks of the upper row without any block of the lower rows moving or breaking under the effect of the casting of the binder.
This process is characterized by the fact that the blocks of the first type are arranged in rows and one on top of the other, so that the wings of these blocks are directed in the same direction for the same portion of wall and that a determined block of a row is placed in a position set back from the block, on which it mainly rests, of the previous row by a distance substantially equal to the length of the wings said block of this previous row, the blocks of the second type being mainly used at the start of walls or portions of walls, to make it possible to adjust the laying of the blocks of the first type in the way described above, and also at the ends of the walls and portions of walls, to terminate them substantially vertically.
Other details and features of the invention will emerge from the description given below, by way of nonlimiting example, of some particular embodiments of the assortment of building blocks according to the invention and of the construction method. by means of this assortment.
Figure 1 shows an assortment of blocks according to a first embodiment of the invention. Figure 2 is a plan view, on a smaller scale, of an assortment of blocks according to a second embodiment of the invention. Figure 3 is a plan view of one type of <EMI ID = 2.1> Figure 4 is a plan view of a base assembly, according to a first embodiment, of an assortment of blocks. FIG. 5 is a plan view of a start of a corner produced according to the method of the invention by means of the assortment of blocks shown in FIG. 1. FIG. 6 is a view partially broken away and in section along line VI-VI of figure 5.

In the various figures, the same reference figures relate to identical or similar elements.
It should first be noted that, although the lower and upper faces of the blocks of a
<EMI ID = 3.1>
as possible, and parallel to each other, while being perpendicular to their side faces, the tolerances allowed for the lengths of the blocks and parts of blocks correspond approximately to the thickness of their walls. This will result: more clearly from the description given below of the construction method using these blocks.
Figure 1 relates to an assortment of building blocks comprising two elementary types of blocks 1 and 2. The first type is formed of a block
1 having a part 3 having the appearance of a right rectangular parallelepiped extended at one of its ends
by two wings 5 and 6 each extending in the extension of one of the side faces 7 and 8 respectively
over a distance substantially equal to a fraction of the length of part 3 which, in the embodiment shown in FIG. 1, is half of this length. The other end of block 1 is provided with a thickening
<EMI ID = 4.1>
5 and 6 from another block.
The parallelepiped-shaped part has a hollow 10 having as large a horizontal section as possible, also in the form of a parallelepiped, which passes through the block over its entire height, the latter therefore being open at its lower and upper bases.
The second type of block 2 has the appearance of a U, the back 13 of which is provided with a thickening similar to that of the block 1 and the length of the wings 5 and 6 is also substantially equal to that of the wings 5. and 6 of block 1.
As already indicated above, the tolerances allowed for the lengths and distances defined above are substantially equal to the thickness of the walls of the parallelepiped.
The lower and upper edges of each of the types of blocks are substantially planar and parallel to each other, so as to allow them to be laid on top of each other in any relative position.
The invention also relates to an assortment of blocks formed by a combination of blocks of the same elementary type or of the two elementary types.
Such an embodiment has been shown
<EMI ID = 5.1>
mentaries 1 and 2 associated, for example, with blocks
20 and 21. The block 20 can be considered as a combination of a block 1 and a block 2, while the block 21 can be considered as a combination of two blocks 2 whose ends of the wings 5 and 6 meet. so as to form a whole.
<EMI ID = 6.1>
births are possible. For example, it is possible to provide combinations of two or more blocks 1, etc.
Figure 3 relates to a variant of the relatively wide block 1 which can be especially useful for the construction of foundation walls.
To avoid any risk of breakage of these 'wide blocks when they are filled with a binder, which is normally concrete, the interior corners of part 3 having the appearance of a parallelepiped are reinforced.
To this end, according to the invention, the side walls 7 and 8 of part 3 are preferably widened from their inner side towards the adjacent corners, as clearly shown in FIG. 3.
Such a reinforcement is also advantageously provided on the inner side of the wings 5 and 6 and this independently of the dimensions of the blocks. These wings therefore widen - on the inner side of the blocks gradually
from their free end towards their base, so as to present a horizontal section substantially in the shape of a rectangular trapezoid.
The type of block 2 can include different variants with regard to the length of the wings for the realization of connections of two or more walls.
In a particular embodiment,
the length of the wings may be substantially equal to the
sum of the length of the wings of the first type of block 1
and the thickness of the walls of part 3 thereof.
In another particular embodiment, the length of the wings of the block 2 is substantially equal to the width of a block 1 measured perpendicularly.
to the wings.
In yet another particular form of block 2, the length of the wings is substantially equal to the difference between the length of a block 1 and the sum of the length of the wings of the latter with the width of a
block 1.
Finally, the length of the wings of a block 2
can still be equal to the difference between the length
and the width of a block 1.
For the realization of right-angled connection of walls of different thicknesses, it could be useful to provide blocks 2 of the width of one of the walls and whose length of the wings is a function of the width of. blocks for the construction of the other wall. Thus, the different variants of the blocks 2 described above can be applied to combinations of blocks of different thicknesses.
In a preferred embodiment of the set shown in Figure 1, the length of the 'block 1 is substantially equal to three times its width.
At least one of the transverse walls of the blocks, of the set according to the invention present, to
at least one of its edges, a recess.
In the assortment of blocks shown in figure 1, most of the blocks 1 have such a recess 12 in the transverse wall 11 and a similar recess 15 in the wall 13. In the same way one could <EMI ID = 7.1>
king 13 of some of the blocks 2.
It is however important that all the blocks 1 and 2 do not have a recess 15 in the wall 13. For example, the blocks to be used for the right-angled corners cannot have this recess 15. On the other hand, all the blocks can have the recess
12 in the wall 11.
The value of these recesses will be explained below, during the description of the construction method used according to the invention.
This process consists of first placing the
<EMI ID = 8.1>
the others and in the continuation of each other, so as to form walls in which downward channels extend, and then to pour a binder, which is normally concrete, in the hollows of the blocks of the upper row in view the filling of these channels.
This method is characterized in that the aforementioned blocks 1 of the first type are arranged in rows and. the
on top of each other, so that the wings of these
blocks are directed in the direction of laying and that a given block of a row is moved back, relative to the block on which it mainly rests, of the previous row, by a distance (b) substantially equal to the length of the wings of said block of this previous row. Blocks 2 of the second type are mainly used at the start of walls or portions of walls, to allow adjustment of the installation of the blocks of the first type as described above, and at the ends
walls and portions of walls, to terminate them substantially vertically. Furthermore, the binder is poured into the blocks thus assembled by filling one by one at least partially, in the direction of their laying, the blocks of the upper row.
The application of this process is clearly illustrated by Figures 5 and 6 showing the construction of a corner (c) of two walls by means of blocks from the set, shown
in Figure 1, in which the length of the block 1 is substantially equal to three times its width.
Thus we obtain, inside the walls, in
forms staircases whose steps
are formed by volume 9, delimited by wings 5 and 6.
The break, in figure 6, shows the interest
recesses 12 and 15. As can be seen, the
blocks are laid so that these recesses face down.
The function of recess 12 is somewhat
different from that of recess 15.
ii In fact, when filling a series of rows of superimposed blocks forming a wall or portion of a wall, the casting of this binder is started from the departures of the walls or portions of walls, for example from a corner, -to then successively and at least partially fill the hollows of the upper row in the direction 16 of their installation, as described in more detail in patent application n [deg.]
PV 0/172389 of November 16, 1976. After having completed the filling of the corners themselves, the filling of the other blocks a. place following inclined channels in which the filling material 17 flows in a fairly complex movement,
by first filling the gaps 9 between the wings 5 and
6 of the blocks and, then, by overflow following a turbulent movement in cascade on the stairs

stepped, causing vibration of the binder introduced, both in the previous channel and in the successive layers of the channel in question during the actual filling, by expelling the air through the following channel not yet filled
of binder.
This complex movement ensures both the necessary braking of the pouring of the binder to avoid the breakage of the blocks as well as perfect filling and homogenization of the binder over the entire height of the wall or of the portion of wall filled during the same operation of filling.
Surprisingly, he has for example
It has been found that, even if a relatively fluid concrete based on expanded clay is used as the filling binder, this concrete has the same homogeneity over the entire height of the filling. This is not the case, for example, when vertical columns are filled with this concrete based on expanded clay. It is observed, in fact, that, in this case, the expanded clay has a tendency to immigrate to the upper zones due to its low density. Such a phenomenon was therefore not observed during the filling of the blocks as described above.
When considering the path that the binder 17 travels in a channel formed in rows of superimposed blocks.; *, It is found that this channel has a narrowing / indicated by the references 18, ie. between two successive rows in front of the lower edge of the transverse wall 11 of the blocks 1. Thanks to the presence, at this location, of the recess 12, which can even be di-

When we now consider the wall 13 of a block 1 in the construction of a wall, we see that this wall is located above the wall 11 of a block 1 of the previous row.
To prevent, for example, as a result of an irregularity on one of the blocks, a slot can remain between these two superposed walls, which would therefore not be filled with the binder, the recess 15 has been provided to ensure the filling with the binder of any void between the edges of these two walls during the casting of the binder in the channels formed inside the
walls or portions of walls.
Thus, we obtain a really perfect filling of all the voids present inside a
wall made of these blocks.
Therefore, if one uses, as a binder
filler, a material having good insulating properties, it is possible to obtain a construction with very high insulating powers, both thermal and acoustic.
The binder is preferably poured into the hollows of the blocks by means of a pump having a flow rate of between 10 and 20 m 3 / h. This pump can for example be connected to a pipe 19 mounted on a hydraulically controlled support and able to move above the place where the construction is to be erected.
As shown in filgures 7 and 8, for the formation of a wedge or a right-angled connection between two walls, for example by means of blocks whose length is slightly less than three times their width, a wedge is formed. right angle with blocks 1 or 2 by orienting their wings 5 and 6 towards the outside of the corner and by advancing the wall 13 of one of the blocks in the direction of these wings, as shown by arrow 30, with respect to the outer side face 8 at the corner of the other block over a distance (d) which is at most substantially equal to the thickness of the wall of part 3 of the blocks 1. If these blocks are used
of which the length of the wings is approximately equal to the
half the length of part 3 of block 1, -this method of laying blocks applies in case the width of the
blocks used would be greater than the length of their wings.
The recessed portions 31 thus formed outside the corner are, if necessary, filled with mortar.
This therefore makes it possible to mount type 1 superimposed blocks in the manner described above with a minimum of type 2 blocks with wings of different lengths. Indeed, as can be seen by considering Figures 7 and 8, in this way it is possible to move back, from a corner, a block of one row relative to that of the previous row over a distance substantially equal to the length of the wings of these blocks, i.e. as prescribed by the process according to the invention and explained above.
FIG. 4 relates to a particular arrangement of blocks for the start of a connection between two walls crossing at right angles.
In this regard, a zone 23 is delimited at the location of the intersection of the walls by four blocks whose walls 13 are arranged along the sides of a square, in the case of two walls of the same thickness, or a rectangle, in the case of two walls of different thicknesses, so that the wings are oriented towards the outside of zone 23, in the direction of the walls.
A particular feature, according to the invention, consists in filling, when a series of blocks have been superimposed, first of all the ends of the portions of the walls thus obtained delimiting the zone 23, which therefore constitutes a column.

last.
Thus, we exclude the risk that the blocks surrounding <EMI ID = 12.1>
or do not break under the effect of the vertical flow of the binder.
Finally, FIG. 9 relates to another form
particular embodiment of the process applied for the construction of a gable or portions of walls located between two openings, for example windows or doors. In this case, we choose a starting point (c) located for example approximately in the middle of the base of the pinion or the distance between the two:
berries and we place the two blocks, in relation to
this place of departure, so that their wings are directed in the opposite direction with respect to this place of departure.
<EMI ID = 13.1>
corner of two walls forming an angle of 180 [deg.] at said starting point. In this way, the arrangement of the blocks, in figure 9. can be compared to that of figures 5 and 6 relating to two portions of walls forming between them an angle of 90 [deg.]. As can be seen, to arrive at the arrangement of the blocks of FIG. 9, it suffices in theory to rotate one of the portions of the wall of FIG. 5 in the plane of the other portion of the wall.
From these considerations it follows that, in general, we can consider as the start of a wall or a portion of a wall a corner of a wall of 90 [deg.] Or the aforementioned place, this place being able, by extension, to be considered for the practice of laying blocks, such as a corner with an angle of 180 [deg.].
Thus, by portion of wall is meant, in the present description, the assembly of blocks. Which were mounted starting from such a corner and which were then filled.

horizontal starting from a corner, thus defined., in the plane of the wall portion, also -. 'defined above, towards the end of the latter.
As it follows from the above, the
installation of the blocks of a portion of wall begins, according to the invention, therefore generally at such a corner by orienting the free ends of the wings in the direction
laying, in other words, by placing the blocks so that the thickening 4 is directed towards the
corner involved. The end of a portion of the wall thus constructed. for example to a door or window opening, is finished
by blocks 2 along a substantially vertical side, as shown in Figure 6, and a U-shaped formwork 33, and in-
<EMI ID = 16.1>
According to the invention, the wings 24 and 25 of
this U-formwork can also be articulated, preferably by means of a continuous flexible strip of synthetic material, such as polyethylene, on the edges 26 of the base 27 of the U, so as to facilitate its
laying before pouring and its removal after hardening of the binder. Such formwork with articulated wings can also be easily packed, which is of great interest for their storage and transport.
To finish a gable wall, it will suffice, as shown in figure 8, to place these forms 33 in
U with the desired inclination on the toothed sides
inclined thus obtained, before the casting of the binder.
Finally, it can be seen, by considering FIGS. 6 and 9, that the same combination of blocks 1 and 2 is repeated every three rows.
It is understood that the invention is not
not limited to the embodiments described and that
many variants can be envisaged without departing from the scope of the present patent.
Thus, in blocks 1 of a certain width, the recess 12 may be omitted since in such a case; the risk of obstruction of the binder during its pouring practically does not exist; that the blocks having the appearance of a U can have wings having a length that is still different from those defined in the description.
