Abstract

Process for operating a blast furnace with injection of hot reducing gases in which most if not all the coke in the charge is replaced by reducing elements introduced into the lower part of the furnace i.e. in the area of the blast tuyeres and/or bosh. The reducing elements are obtained from a cheap fuels e.g. hydrocarbons and/or coal, and include powdered carbon in suspension in reducing gases. Costs are reduced as not so much coke is used.
