<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

Sealing ring with cutting edge for life-long tubular fittings, in particular for thin-walled pipes.
A sealing ring is known inserted between a raocord piece provided with an internal cone and a clamping piece, with an externally oonic front part to which is connected an externally and internally cylindrical piece; the inner cylindrical face widens in a cone towards the front and the front part internally carries a cutting edge from which its inner side widens in a cone towards the rear (German patent 832,972).
The angle of inclination of the internal cone of the connecting piece in the form of a screw cord is normalized to 24 and-the internal cone of the bottom of the cord serving as a clamping piece is normalized to 90, in Germany. magne and abroad, for pipe sizes ranging from approximately 4 to 42 mm.
The advantages of these screw connections with cutting edge lie in their simplicity and safety.
However, in tubes of large diameter and
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
corresponding wall thickness, they require a considerable clamping force, while, on the other hand, tubes of smaller diameter and lower wall thickness are easily clamped, which leads to a narrowing of the tube wall and 4 'the resulting loss of resistance and passage section.
While at the beginning these screw fittings were preferably used heavily for steel pipes, particularly intended for oil and compressed air lines, their field of application has extended to over time and many copper, light metal and synthetic tubes of varying diameters and degrees of hardness are used today. For the fitters it is therefore extremely difficult to tighten the screwed connection correctly by intuition, It can be remedied by loosening the union nut and checking the accuracy of the notch, but this results in a waste of time.
Better results are obtained with improved cutting rings, which have been developed in the meantime, in which a clamping part connects to the cutting part. The clamping part must also limit the notching. The very subtle difference between cutting and tightening, however, does not allow the intended effect to be manifested in each case to a sufficient extent.
The object of the invention is to make the limit of the notch clearly perceptible, which makes it superfluous to release the clamping part again. Based on the shape of the sealing ring which is the subject of German patent 832,972, the invention solves this problem by providing the front part, which is externally conical, with a single oonic surface, the inclination of which. is lower than that of the connecting piece and forming a shoulder with a pressure edge where the two
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
of the inner face connecting to the cylindrical inner face is less than the conicity of the inner face connecting to the cutting edge, so that at the end of the notching,
the outer oonic face of the front part applies across its entire surface to the inner cone of the connecting piece and that the oonic inner face connecting to the inner cylindrical face also applies through its entire surface to the casing tubular.
Thanks to this oonformation, the tightening of the trim is first easy. During notching, the two cones of the front part of the cutting ring - and of the connecting piece match each other, so that the clamping resistance increases. This resistance, together with the resistance to cut-off as the depth of the cut increases, results in a clearly noticeable stop in clamping when the pressure ridge of the shoulder meets the tube.
In this way, checks on the evenness of the notching are superfluous and a perfect assembly can also be performed by a non-professional.
The end face of the front part of the etanoheity ring, which carries the cutting edge harder than the material of the tube, advantageously extends perpendicular to the internal cone of the connecting piece. This front part advantageously has the same wall thickness up to the shoulder. Before clamping the vent piece on the connecting piece, the outer edge of the conical front part of the sealing ring protrudes advantageously from the inner cone of the connecting piece by the length of the required displacement. for the notch.
The accompanying drawing shows an exemplary embodiment of the invention making it possible to explain other features. In this drawing: @

Figure 1 shows in section the etanoheity ring in the starting position.
Figure 2 shows in section the sealing ring of Figure 1 inserted between the inner cone of the screw connection and the nut-raooord, before tightening thereof.
Figure 3 shows in section the assembly viss6 of Figure 2 'after tightening the éorou-raocord.
The sealing ring 1 of the invention comprises in principle a front part 2, externally conical, passing towards the rear to a cylindrical part 3 with a conical chamfer 4 forming the rear end face. Part 2 has an inclination less than that of the internal cone 5 of the connecting piece 6 (figure 2) and carries internally, on its front end face 7 approximately perpendicular to the internal cone 5, an annular sharp edge 8. To this, connects first, with the same inclination as part 2, the conical inner surface 9.
From the cylindrical inner casing 13 of the rear part 3 of the sealing ring, an inner surface 12 extends forwardly, the oonioity of which is reversed and which has an inclination less than that of the inner surface 9. At the meeting of the two surfaces, a shoulder 10 is formed with a pressure ridge 11.
Figure 2 shows the sealing ring in the starting position, between the connector 6 and the raceord nut 15 screwed with its conical bottom 16. The end 14 of the tube, connect against the stop 17 of the fitting 6. the front part 2, externally tapered, of the sealing ring 1 springs from the inner cone 5 of the fitting 6 approximately the length of the scoring path. The cutting edge 8 is in contact with the end 14 of the tube and the shoulder 10 is approximately perpendicular thereto.

EMI5.1
In Fig. 3, the nut 15 has pressed the front part 2 of the sealing ring into the inner cone 5 of the. screw connection 6. The outer edge of the annular cutting edge 8 of the sealing ring slid along the inner rod of the connection, while the annular cutting edge 8 'cut into the end 14 of the tube, lifting the material. @ of it. The front part 2, externally conical, of the sealing ring has adapted to the internal cone 5 of the fitting. The shoulder 10 with the pressure ridge 11 and the oonic inner surface 12 have been forced inwards.
The pressure ridge 11 strongly encloses the end 14 of the tube and stops the tightening of the union nut due to the clearly perceptible resistance. The tapping is thus completed. The safety against tearing of the end 14 of the tube, under the effect of the pressure prevailing in the pipe, is increased by this blocking reinforced by the lifting of the material of the tube in front of the cutting edge of the ring and the wedging of the cylindrical part 3 thereof on the end of the tube.
