<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>
<Desc/Clms Page number 8>
<Desc/Clms Page number 9>
<Desc/Clms Page number 10>
placage.
<Desc/Clms Page number 11>
<Desc/Clms Page number 12>
<Desc/Clms Page number 13>

Fittings for plated tubes *
The invention relates to a connection method for clad tubes, preferably internally plate tubes, which makes it possible to easily obtain a tight connection by a slight deformation of the ends of the tubes. It consists in thinning the wall of the tube, that is to say of the tube-core at its ends - on its outer face in the case of internal plating - to about half the thickness of the wall and to fold back the thus thinned part which bears the internal plating on its inner face.
The edge thus folded down may have the form of a conical flare (flange at 45); the flanges can however also make an angle of 90 with the axis of the tube; they can peck be tilted at 135 by
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
relative to this axis, or the tapered ends can even be folded back 180.
The description which will follow, with reference to the appended drawings, given by way of nonlimiting examples, will make it clear how the invention can be implemented, the particularities which emerge both from the drawings and from the text being, of course, part of the description. of it.
In the drawings, it has always been assumed that these were tubes with an internal plating. It goes without saying that the invention can also be applied to externally clad tubes.
According to fig. 1, the two ends of the tubes 1 are thinned on their outer face and a slightly conical flaring has been made of these tapered ends 2. Between the flared ends is placed a sealing ring 3 of suitable material, preferably the same as that of veneer. The ends of the tubes are held together by a double screw connection 4 which, by a thread, is taken with the ends of the tubes 1.
The front surfaces of the tube ends bear heavily against the fitting when tightening the assembly.
According to fig. 2, this embodiment is slightly modified in that the sealing ring 0 is not arranged separately, but forms part of the connector 3 'and has the form of a rib with a cross section. dovetail.
In the embodiment according to FIG. 5, the tapered ends 5 are folded back 90 so that the internal veneers come into immediate contact with each other. Tightening is done again using a connector 4.
According to fig. 4, the internal veneers of the tubes are not in immediate contact with each other, but with a rib 6 of an internal veneer of the fitting 4.
In the execution device according to fig. 5, only one of the tube ends 1 is provided with a flange 5 folded down to - @
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
90, while the other end of tube 1 'is formed in the form of a sleeve which is engaged by an internal thread with a thread of the end of tube 1. The sleeved end 1' is also internally plated and this plating internal extends to the bottom of the sleeve, so that at this location the internal veneers of the tube ends are in immediate contact with each other.
Figs. 6 to 11 show the application of the invention to flanged assemblies.
Fig. 6 shows an arrangement in which the thinned end of the tube 5 is in front of the flange 8, which can be connected to the tube 1 by threading and welding.
In the arrangement according to FIG. 7, the thinned end of the tube is crimped into the flange, so that the front surface of the inner plating is in the plane of the front surface of the flange.
The arrangement according to FIG. 8 simply has thinned ends of tubes 5 folded back conically and cooperating a.vec a sealing washer 9, made for example of artificial material. This has, approximately, the diameter of the flanges 8, which are assembled with the tubes 1 as in the previous arrangements. The fixing bolts 10 of the flange pass through the artificial material sealing washer.
On the flanges are provided special fixing jaws 11 for the folded edges 5.
Fig. 9 (right side) shows a variant of this arrangement. Instead of simply giving the tube ends the shape of a single cone, they are made in the form of double cones, as shown in the left half of fig. 9, and in fig. 10. The sealing ring must then be shaped accordingly. In this demining device, the folded edges are still welded together, by a special weld bead, at their outer edge.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
Figs. 11 to 13 show the arrangement with the edges turned down by 180, fig. 11 in conjunction with an X-section sealing ring 12. The folded-over part is completely crimped into the outer excavation ,,., So that the wall thickness at this point is the same as at the rest. walls.
Figs. 12 and 13 show this arrangement applied to the connection of a smaller tube 1a with a larger tube 1b, in which the smaller tube is engaged in the larger one by mandrel. In this case, the tube can either be clad only on the inside (fig.12), or also have an outer cladding (fig.13).
Figs. 14 and 15 show a sleeve connection.
Here the sleeved end 1c flattened internally, is preferably formed by the head of the rolling mill with pilgrim pitch, while a compression ring is tightened on the thinned end of the male end 1d conforming to the invention; this ring is fixed and welded on the one hand to a collar 14, on the other hand to the folded end of the tube 5, including the plating; this end of the tube, with this compression ring, are clamped by a flange 15 thereof against a gasket 16 placed between the sleeve and the compression ring. In the arrangement according to FIG. 14, the tightening of the assembly is carried out by flanges and bolts; in that of FIG. 15, it results from the constitution of the compression ring in the form of a threaded ring which engages with the internal thread of the sleeve.
Figs. 16 to 31 show embodiments for plate tubes of brittle material, particularly of artificial material, in which, in view of the brittle artificial material, deformation of the plating tube is only with difficulty possible.
According to the invention, this difficulty is remedied by bringing the plating only to the vicinity of the point of rec-

cord; the latter is itself covered by a collar bush made of the material of the plating, the cylindrical part of which is in sealed connection with the plating, while the collar is applied to the front surface of the tube.
To ensure a good bond between the veneer and the flanged sleeve, both are thinned in a corresponding manner, ie terminating in cones, and engaged one above 1. ' other .. In the case of a metal plating. bush is welded to the plating and the tube; the veneer is made of an artificial material or the like, the ring is glued.
Fig. 16 shows the arrangement of a screw connection. 17 are the actual tubes, 18 the plating,
19 the screw connection, with which the two tubes are screwed against each other. 20 is the collared plating bush according to the invention. We can distinguish the thick-walled collars and the taper of the ring and the veneer where they are applied one on top of the other.
Fig. 17 shows a flange assembly. The artificial collared veneer sleeves are glued. The operation is carried out in detail as follows: first the tube is plugged with a rubber ball or a wad 20 and filled with cooling water to cover the artificial material veneer up to * at point x. The flange is put in place and then welded without danger of combustion; the water and the auxiliary device are then evacuated; the plating sockets are finally connected to the plating and to the end of the tube.
According to figs. following, collared bushings or other similar parts, are deeply recessed with wide collars and mating surfaces extended in proportion and are held and protected on all sides; in particular towards the inside of the tube, this protection is ensured by thinned ends of the tube, or else not thinned, but protruding; all the rest they are made up and arranged in a

that the pressure exerted on the sealing surfaces does not loosen the veneer in the tube or act on it in any way. This is mainly achieved by the fact that the pressure on the sleeve collars located outside the tubes is absorbed in conjunction with special compression pieces, rings, flanges and the like.
Fig. 18 shows an example of an arrangement with simple and smooth joint surfaces. The compression piece 21 with external thread is, for example, placed with clamping and welded; but it can also be made by upsetting and its purpose is to make it possible to accommodate inside the assembly of particularly robust artificial material collars to obtain the large joint surfaces which are necessary, and where appropriate, to accommodate and dispose of sealing rings of various kinds.
Fig. 19 is similar to FIG. 18, as regards the assembly; however here the collar of artificial material is deeply embedded.
Fig. 20 shows a coupling assembly with compression piece and tight seal, consisting of a collar of artificial material of adequate shape and a sealing ring 22, both of which are embedded behind the thinned and protruding tube ends which ensure their position, with a compression zone there.
Fig. 21 shows an arrangement similar to that of FIG. 20.
Fig. 22 shows a connector assembly for collared tubes obtained by upsetting, in which the collar of artificial material is completely embedded and the sealing ring 22 bears freely on the upper edge of the collar.
Fig. 23 shows a tube crimped into a wall of the tube and lined with a sleeve or veneer. Here the tube
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
with thinned end is first crimped by mandrelling, then the sleeve of fur or veneer is put in place and fixed; the thinned end of the tube ensures this fixation.
Figs. 24, 25, 26 show various flanged joint arrangements. Here also the two strong collars of the artificial bushes are deeply recessed and then held relative to the interior of the tube by the thinned ends of the tube which protrude.
Figs. 27-30 show in detail other flanged assemblies with attachment ends having full wall thickness.
Fig. 31 shows a bypass of plated tubes.
23 and 24 are the plating collar sockets; the veneer pieces are pressed against the branch in the direction of the arrows. Then the sockets 23 and 24 are engaged; finally the end 25 of the sleeve is crimped in the direction of the lower arrows and the two sleeves are fixed by gluing.
While, in the arrangements indicated by figs.
1 to 15, there remains a cavity between the folded edge 5 and the part of the tube which has remained unchanged, the particular arrangement of FIGS. 32 to 61 consists in that the folded edge rests, without leaving any void, against the part of the tube which has remained unchanged this support is direct or it takes place via a projection of the connector penetrating into the wall of the tube. On the other hand, there. The end faces of the folded edge should be given a bearing surface, for example on the fitting or in the flange.
Fig. 32 shows a fitting assembly. The internally clad tube ends 26 have the drawdowns 27.
The thinning at the place of the folding is, as fig. 33 shows, carried out by a V-shaped notch in order to form a protrusion or spout, so that after folding, the folded edge applies completely against the unthinned end of the tube (Fig. 32). Fitting 28 has an unthreaded middle part
<Desc / Clms Page number 8>
and smooth 29 which serves as a bearing surface for the front sections of the folded edges and the seal 30.
Fig. 54 shows two arrangements, one in the upper half, the other in the lower half. The connector 28 has on its internal face an annular bead 31 adapted to thin the end of the tube; this bead is continued by a bearing surface 29 as in the arrangement of fig.32.
Screwing the fitting onto the end of the tube applies one of the bearing surfaces of the bead 31 against the bearing surface of the tube created by its thinning, after which the thinned end is folded back around the still free surface of the tube. bead using a suitable compressor tool. This results, between the connector and the end of the tube, a solid and irremovable connection equal to a sleeved end.
The two arrangements of FIG. 34 are distinguished mainly by the shape of the annular beads shown in the drawing and the position resulting therefrom by the folded edges.
Fig. 35 shows the corresponding arrangement for a flanged connection, in the right part before the edge fold-down, in the left part after this fold-down. The flange 32 has a bore 33, in which the turned-down edge 27 fits so as to bear on one side, against the unthinned part of the tube end 26, on the other also by its front surface but against flange 32.
Fig. 36 shows a variant with regard to the bearing surface against the tube, this variant comprising no bearing of the front surface of the folded edge.
Figs. 37-46 show arrangements, especially for high pressure pipelines, in which thrust out of the pipeline, under the action of internal pressure, of some part of the seal or cladding is prevented.
Shaded in fig. 37, this is a flanged assembly
<Desc / Clms Page number 9>
(for the flanges see fig. 41). The ends of tubes 34 and 35 are reinforced. The end 34 has over the veneer 36 a projection 37, which projects over a correspondingly recessed part 38 of the end of the tube 35 and surrounds it. By this the dangerous point 39 is eliminated, that is to say that neither the plating 36 nor the shutter 40 can be forced back through the slot 41.
It is the same for fig. 38. The difference is quite external, in the sense that instead of a flanged connection, it is a connection by welding. While in fig. 37, the slot 41 is essential for a strong tightening and on the sealing joint, the weld bead is half in place after the joint has been vigorously tightened.
From Fig. 39 a rib 43 of one end of tube 34 protrudes above veneer 36 to enter a suitable groove in the other end of tube 35.
Fig. 40 gives rise to the same observation as in fig. 38.
According to fig. 41 the two ends of the tubes each have a groove 44; these two grooves have the same outline; a joint cover ring is adjusted and introduced. Fig. 42 gives rise to the same observation as in figs. 40 and 38. In these arrangements it is mainly a question of being able to tighten the joint vigorously and reliably before carrying out the weld. It is important and advantageous in this case that the melting action in welding can never reach or melt the coating of the tube and the seal plug.
The shaping of the ends of the tubes can, for this purpose, be carried out, according to the proposition already made, so that the wall of the main tube is first thinned at the ends and these ends are brought to the support against the part that has not been modified.
According to figs. 43 to 46, the weld 42 is provided to directly form joint cover, sealing member and support of @
<Desc / Clms Page number 10>
plating. To support it, the ends 46 are cut around in the mass. When tightening the joint forcefully, these ends are caught in the root of the weld bead.
Figs. 44 and 45 show welded joints, in which the parts 47 are formed by the thinned and folded ends.
According to fig. 46, a threaded connection 48 provided with a notch 47a, as in FIG. 44, serves in the first place to forcefully tighten the ends of tubes over the sealing ring, as well as the end edges of the veneer.
The particularity of the embodiments represented in FIGS. 47 to 61 consists in making at the place of assembly a sleeve or other similar device (casing in, in which are introduced the clamp rings which exert a sealing pressure on the tube ends, raised in some cases, by the interposition in these cases of a seal or an intermediate piece.
Figs. 47 and 48 show the ends 50, 51 of the tubes 52, 53, strongly folded in the form of staples, 54 and 55 being the veneer.
The clamps 57, 58 of conical shape at their end and placed inside the sleeve 56, bear against the ends of tube 50, 51 of corresponding conical shape and compress them against each other, thus closing the joint.
The sealing ring 59 is usefully provided with a steel core which is coated with the marl veneer as the tube.
Figs. 49 and 50 show an assembly with an annex part 60 screwed and advantageously welded in addition, with the aid of which and in connection with the clamp pressed on it, the end of the tube 53 is pressed against the end of the tube 52 with the interposition of the sealing ring 59. The ends of / tubes 52, 53 have their veneer folded down at the end of the seal. The extreme

The moth 52 only goes to such a point that the sealing ring 59 is covered at 61 by the wall of the sleeve and held in position.
Fig. 50 represents the same arrangement but with a removable double sleeve of suitable conformation.
Fig. 51 shows a ball joint assembly.
The spherical tube ends 62, 63 receive this shape by rings 64, 65 screwed and welded to the ends of the tubes; these rings have a threaded body as long as possible and have their thickened, ball-shaped end; 1. the thinned end of the tube with its plating is folded down so as to adapt to the shape of the ball joint, and thus a closed ball end is formed, partly flattened 66, 67. Between these two ball joints is the sealing ring 68, preferably made of corrosion and acid resistant material, and closing the gap between the rib of the fitting 69 and the rings 70, 71 so as to avoid dangerous cavities.
The sealing ring 68 and the clamps 70, 71 combine to form the spherical housing intended to receive the ball end; by the conical widening of the clamps 70, 71 and 72, the ball end retains a mobility corresponding to this widening, so as to be able to compensate for modifications which would occur in the tubular pipe.
In order to reduce the dimensions of the assembly, the end of the tubes 62, 63 - see fig. 52 - can be thinned at 73, 74; the clamp 64, 65 can be screwed onto the thinned end of the tube, and welded at 75, 76 to support the folded edge.
As a result, the wall of the tube returns to its normal thickness again; only the clamp ring exceeds the outer diameter of the tube by the same amount, at the inclined front face of which the projecting thinned end of the tube 77, 78 is folded back with the veneer.
The seal is ensured by the ring 79 of a suitable material.
<Desc / Clms Page number 12>
The rib 80 of the fitting grips the specially shaped tube ends and the sealing ring ensuring closure, while the clamp rings 82, 83, fitted to the ends of the tubes and resting in the sleeve 81 , press the ends of the tubes together, ensuring tightness.
Fig. 53 shows a stepped assembly with flared tube ends. The ends are flared into a long, tapered cone; in addition, the folded end cap is provided with a second cone with a steeper slope. This double cone arrangement provides a certain seal even with the highest pressures. The stepped conformation 84, 85 at the outer surface of the end of the flared tube distributes in a favorable manner over a large surface of the tube the tensile force undergone by the end of the tube, under high pressures.
Fig. 54 shows another example of an arrangement of stepped assemblies with unmodified tube ends until the thinned tube collapses at the end of the joint.
Fig. 55 represents an assembly with combinations of sleeve and steps. The end of the tube 86 is provided with a thread 87, which serves for screwing the sleeved piece 88, which is welded at 89. The end of the tube 86 is provided with an external tapered cone over the entire length of which s 'extends the veneer. The end of the tube 91 to be assembled is also flared into a suitable tapered cone, so that a long and ideal joint surface is produced. The outer surface of the flared end of the tube is, as shown in fig. 53, stepped.
Figs. 56 to 60 show angular, T, double T, quintuple and sixfold pipe connections.
In fig. 56, the tube ends are, for example., Provided with screwed clamps, through which the folding of the -
<Desc / Clms Page number 13>
thinned ends 93 is energetically tight, with the veneer, on its seat. The boot 94, assumed by way of example, in the present case, to be a block, is pierced with simple round channels 95 according to the number of desired branches; the middle channel 96 serves at the same time to accommodate the added core 97. This core is made either of the same material as the veneer, or of any other suitable material. At 98, the core is provided with recesses (joint surfaces) of any shape, into which also open the channels passing through the box. The core 97 can, for example, be held by the threaded closing and stopping plug.
The extremely simple construction gives the possibility of bringing together in a box all the connections or connections from the straight or angular line crossing to the six-fold connection; in these assemblies can be employed advantageously the particular devices indicated for the ends of the tubes, including the screwed retaining parts, in particular those of the ball joint.
Fig. 61 shows a shut-off valve for high pressures, for plated tubes. The construction is the same as that of figs.
56 to 60; only the core 97 goes all the way to 100 and serves as a housing for the closure tail 101 which is made of the same corrosion or acid resistant material as the core or plating. The clamping cap 102 is usefully coated at 103 so as to resist corrosion and acids. The valve allows, in its simplest arrangement, the arrangement of two to five connections in a square block, up to seven connections in a hexagonal block.
